Worst we can be if we lose both remaining rubbers is 7-6 in sets; Aussies can reach 6-6; Arg are at 6-7.

So we are guaranteed top spot.

Taken from the United Cup Website

Katie Boulter delivered an early 1-0 lead over Australia, racing past Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-1 in the final Group F tie at the United Cup in Sydney. The 24th-ranked Briton's straight-sets win assured Great Britain will advance to the quarter-finals as the group winner.

"I've been trying to avoid all the stats on all this but we were at dinner with Laura Robson last night and she thankfully told me I had to win in straight sets," Boulter said. "So I was feeling the pressure from last night, so really appreciate that, Laura."

Australia's World No. 9 Alex de Minaur will look to force a live mixed doubles decider when he faces No. 125 Billy Harris. Australia is still trying to qualify as the best-placed second-placed country in Sydney.

Boulter dominated Gadecki from the outset, showing superior consistency and depth from the baseline, needing just 70 minutes to secure the victory. She broke Gadecki straight out of the gate and saved the sole break point she faced to cruise through the finish.

"Very happy to start my new year like that," Boulter said. "I feel like I've lost a lot of sleep recently over the thought of playing my fiance in doubles so I'm so tired. I'm just so happy to get through this rubber, I'm not going to lie."

I hope they rest Katie from the doubles now that weve already won the group

We play Italy on Friday, then winners of USA or China.

Italy have a tough team, Katie would need to play Paolini.

I think we will play Poland. Czechia are currently the best runner's up and I think Australia can only tie with them on set % and I don't think they can get a better games % than the Czech's. Czechia can't play Poland as they both in the same group so would swap with us.

It's correct unless the best runner up in Sydney is from Poland's group.

No team can play another team from their group in the QF or SF. Where that would happen the runner-up team swaps with the lowest ranked team to have progressed that played the group stage in the same city.

Ok, cool - Swiatek or Paolini then! Ouch!

For singles, yes, the number of points varies dependent on the opponent's ranking.

I think Australia need to win in straight sets and not lose more than 4 games to finish best runners-up and for us to play Italy. Otherwise Czechia finish best runners-up and we play Poland.
I think! Don't hold me to that!
