With apologies to DavidC but as we didn't have a thread and the draw is now out and play starts this week, I thought we should have one.
DavidC, happy if you want to start a new one or edit this or take it down, just allows for any discussion to take place if anyone wishes to comment.
Draw is out today: not sure what H2H records Mika and Charlie have versus their group opponents? Both are seeded 3 in their groups and must be aiming at trying to claw a semis place initially and then see where it goes from there
The eight boys and eight girls have been split into two groups of four, with the top two in each group advancing to the semi-finals following three days of round-robin matches, which begin on Wednesday.
No problem at all Jon. Thanks for taking the initiative - I wish more people would set up threads rather than leaving it for when it is convenient for CD or myself to do so. In answer to your question about head to heads Mika has none that I am aware of but Charlie has played all his RR opponents. Luca Preda he lost to in a J500 earlier in the year, Maxim Mrva he edged in the Roehampton semi before losing to Rafael Jodar. Kim Jangjun is very familiar though - Charlie beat him in the last three Slams.
In the girls event Laura Samson has the highest WTA ranking comfortably (370) having reached a WTA250 semi in July. Tyra and Mika are both in the 600s whilst Kristina is younger and has yet to break into the top 1000
Thanks David - looking forward to seeing how they go in this one. Feels like semis is possible for both, but a tough ask nonetheless in a quality set of fields
Renata was injured before the start of the event and almost pulled out, and wasn't yet firing on all cylinders. However she didn't use as an excuse. But nice to see a number of Slovaks playing well. Since the likes of Hantuchova, Cibulkova, Rybarikova, they haven't been able to challenge at the top levels of the game.
Rain seems to have got in the way across the courts here, Charlie lost the opening set and also down in the second, currently looks like they are off for a rain delay
Not sure if Mika will get on as they are still finishing the opening match on her court and she is 4th!
Also, not a soul in the crowd - crowd is the wrong word to use. Not a soul spectating in what is quite a big arena, which is a shame
