Hannah's defending a lot of points here; shame she and Sonay had to come head to head in R1

Yes, it is a shame. But there is the intriguing possibility of Sonay v Jodie in round 2
And the group above them in the same quarter has our other three youngsters along with Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (AO Junior champion in 2020) who is still only 19.

Oh CD, I thought Sonay was your little fave - or have you changed allegiance ?
I am a very all-embracing, open-armed person - I have lots of little faves
But both Hannah and Sonay are at the top of the list
However, being a big fan of Hannah (which I was/am) wasn't really saying much - the girl was #1 in the world as a tiddler (and still pretty much is) so supporting her was easy but like being one of the crowd (if you're part of the crowd that supports 12 year-old tennis ! )
Sonay was more quirky and, yes, I was a Sonay fan when she wasn't really on the scene (partly because she was quirky)
Strange quirk in the draw that despite 12 Brits in the first round draw, that the bottom quarter of the draw (ie 8 players of the 32) didn't feature a single Brit - that means possibly a lot more all British matches than would have happened, had the draw not so freakily put no Brits in the last section.
I will be really intrigued to see how Hannah does against Sonay, and also to see how Jodie is performing, after such a long injury lay off - a great match up potentially in Round 2, if Jodie comes through - I guess a lot depends on how rusty she is, after such a long lay off.
