Week 42 - ITF W100 Shrewsbury, Great Britain - Indoor Hard

Great to see Hev get to the final.

Hoping that Sonay can join her now.

I remember around this tkme last season, Minis coach was on here and exchanged some messages with CD and others. I cant recall his name or whether he is still her coach now? Shed done well in this event or another one around this time on the itf circuit ?

That was Matt James I think - don't know if he is still her coach.

Apparently Matt James has recently become Jodie's coach. The camera panned to him during Jodie's match vs Sonay and the commentator passed on that info

 Good to know biggrin

Good luck to him and Jodie

So maybe Mark Taylor is looking after Mimi, unless she us currently going it alone?

1st set Karts 7-5 as the Frenchwoman belts a forehand long. She's containing the power well and definitely not looking out of place at this level.

Edit - and Dodin retires injured at 1*-2 0-30.

Yay

It's June last year since either Sonay or Heather has lost to a fellow Brit.

Sonay 12 wins in a row since she lost to Katie B in the 2023 Surbiton W100 R2.

Heather 5 wins in row since she lost also to Katie B in the 2023 Nottingham W250 SF

For some reason this final has randomly reminded me of when Heather played Laura Robson in 2011(?) in Barnstaple(?) and Sky Sports News sent a journalist there who would say things like could we see this same match in a grand slam final in the future. Ah. What a moment haha

Either way, good luck to both of them, probs rather Heather win tomorrow!

I don't think that Heather Watson and Laura Robson ever played each other again, in singles.

I remember Laura R won in 3 sets.

They only met that once at tour level.

Some great wins by Heather this week and showing signs that her singles career is not over. And yet a great chance for Sonay consolidate a place in the Top 100 and get close to the Australian Open main draw.

Watched a bit of Sonay earlier. Dodin was throwing everything at her, but she was an absolute wall from the back. Commentators noted how at 19, Sonay had already described her mentality on the big points as one of her major strengths - quite unusual for one so young.

Impressive from her.
