Jon H , what odds for Mimi beating Sonay tomorrow? I have a spare 30p without a home and I think Mimi has a chance TBH.
Mimi is certainly on a roll, she recently won the W35 in Aldershot and has been moving quite rapidly up the rankings. Like Sonay she has also had an all GB run to the QF having played Ranah and Hephzibar in the 1st two rounds. Whatever the result it should be interesting to see how Mimi adjusts to the higher level of play.
Certainly be another interesting match though I kind of go wirh the odds in favour of Sonay so I'll pass on that one.
Rooting for Sonay now - would be great for her to cement an aus open MD list, and hoping heather can meet her in the final, and maybe make a very last minute push herself towards the top 100?
Really happy to see Sonay wim two matches against young rivals when she had everything to lose. This event is reminding me of the old LTA National Championships when the top players put themselves on the line. Apart from Katie versus Harriet, doesn't feel like the top Brits play each other very often.
Yeah, Sonay had 3 individual set points in game 10, before taking her 4th one in the tie break, but Mimi has 3 successive set points at 6-3 in the TB, before losing the final 5 points. Sonay with an early break in the second set, she leads 7-6(6) *1-0.
Mimi's standard is rising with every match. She was more than holding her own against Sonay in the first set, particularly when she was firing forehand after forehand into Sonay's backhand corner. Mimi's strength seems to be her ability to get into the optimum position after each shot and her ability to attack the corners of the court relentlessly. She also has a mix of very effective serves, that resulted in a a number of DFs but also a lot of aces. A bit more experience at finishing off sets against tough opponents and more stamina will make her a truly formidable opponent. I don't think it will be long before she joins Emma and Sonay in the top 100, together with Hannah and Mika we should have another decade of high level women's tennis to watch.

I am as enthusiastic as you are Petertoo about Mimi. I would add to that temperament. She keeps her focus so well for a 17 year old. In fact I saw more flair than I had seen previously in Mimis matches. I think a higher level of competition definitely brings the best out of her.Is she going to play the doubles? If so a few senior British tennis players should take a look at her training regime.
