What positive tennis from Dan Evans in a sensational contest with the no 1 seed to take the tie break. I'm hoping it's one of those matches where the winner of the first set tie break takes the second set and the match. We've seen a lot of those lately.

First break point of the match at 3-2 to Tiafoe but Dan saves it. Still on serve 3 all.

Seen one or two clips on Twitter and looks like an excellent match - I mean, they might not be the two best players in the world but they do have great and exciting styles and demeanours, and they seem to spark each other in a good way.

I am sure I read they are friends, but with a bit of spice thrown in - but not sure I have that right?

Dan saves another break point for 4 all. It's getting tough for him but he's hanging in there. If he can just get it to another tie break he's got a chance.

Sorry I lost my transmission or rather Sky switched over to the 6 Kings exhibition in Saudi after Dan lost the second tie break. The Mrs was hogging the computer so no access to the match there and looking on my phone I saw that Tiafoe had gone 4-0 up in the deciding set. 'That's that then' I thought, although I remember dismissing Dan's chances once before when he was 4-0 down in a deciding set against Khachanov in the first round of the US Open, but as we all know D came through, and next thing I know Dan's pulled it back to 4-3 against Tiafoe. It can't be happening again can it?

Nope. 6-3 he lost, good effort though and positive week for Dan!

Shame, but Tiafoe is a bona fide top 20 player these days, and incidentally I agree with what the commentary said that Dan plays like he  should be in the top 100 himself just now.

Tennis Abstract has Evo at 120 in their current ELO ratings, which I think feels more like it, compared to 180. Jake is 31st from TA ELO.

An ELO rating of 31 when he's beaten one Top 50 player. Am not sure that means very much.

Presumably there are other people with ELO systems out there ? I wonder how they rate Jake and other Brits ( I dont know! And your comment is a reasonable challenge! )
