and that takes Jake to live ranked 90, and it doesnt look like there is much chance of anyone overtaking him as most of his chasing rivals in the rankings are out of their events this week.

Proving to be a good singles day for Brits at the ATP and WTA level with Jake, Evo, Harriet winning. Cam is just started in his match here and Katie delayed until tomorrow

Katie won too today - 3 and 2

 And Kyle won as well.

Hadnt spotted this - still only tournie 2 for Cam. This end of the season is surely about just getting through for and unscathed more than winning

Jake has started well, again, and has a break at 3-1 up in the first set

Jake's just lost the last ten points as I first check the score and stats. He's gone from 4-2 up to 4-5 down. It's still on serve but that's not a good sign!

and down he goes, 7-6 6-3

Still, won a round in an ATP250, that wouldnt have been on the cards even 6 months ago.

His focus looks like it is on Challengers for rest of season, a good end to the year, a few more ranking place rises, and maybe Jake can look at ending the year in the top 80 or so.

A step too far - for now...

I think we have to remember he's not played many top 50 players yet (and I think only beaten one), so this was definitely a step up and there's a learning curve going on. But it's still a new achievement for him at ATP250 level (to qualify and then win a round).

He's just raised our expectations so high with his performances this year that we're almost surprised when he loses. smile

Not sure about that. While it would be nice to win I think most folk are very well aware where Jake has come from and have no great expectations at this level. Yet

for sure, totally agree. The BBC has a piece on this and his rise today, hell play qualies this weekend for Basle (5th Alt) or Vienna (2nd alt) and hopefully get into one of those big events. hes then in main draw of Bratislava and Helsinki to finish the season off, presumably ambition is to secure direct entry to the AO. What a thing that would be.
