FQR:  (q1) Jacob Fearnley WR 98 defeated (q6) Kamil Majchrzak (POL) WR 146 by 3-6 6-3 7-6(2)  smile

That was touch & go until the tie-break!

Well done, Jake! He really is pretty good at coming out on top in these tight situations, isn't he?

And I think this is his first time qualifying for an ATP250. (He didn't manage it in Newport.) So another little landmark in an excellent year!

No seeds awaiting qualifiers in MD R1. But some pretty decent players. Potential R1 opponents for Jake with potential seeds for R2:

Pedro Martinez (ESP) WR 45 / section seed (4) Paul
Lorenzo Sonego (ITA) WR 49 / section seed (2) Ruud
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ESP) WR 64 / section seed (6) Nakashima
Corentin Moutet (FRA) WR 72 / section seed (7) Griekspoor

Edit: ah, I see GBJ already optimistically listed these MD options before the FQR.

L28:  Corentin Moutet (FRA) WR 72 (CH = 51 in November 2022) vs (Q) Jacob Fearnley WR 98

Could've been a lot worse...  wink

Yup - just a point away from being pointless. Loving that he came through! How many points is it for qualifying?

13 ranking points for qualifying, taking Jake to a live 601 points.

25 / 50 / 100 / 165 / 250 points in the MD.

Tennis abstract rate Jake as 6th favourite and a 3.3 percent chance of winning the event, with last 8 as expected round he will reach.

Out of interest, how do the bookies see it?

Tennis abstract also have Jake as 30th best in the world currently based on ELO ratings

Jake's title odds are not yet showing on bet365.

They have him as 1/2 favourite to beat Moutet in R1 ( Moutet 13/8 )

I'm sure Evo would be more than happy to give Jake some tips...

Moutet is a really obstinate opponent who is quite happy to dig in and make himself impossible to beat. Someone with an unquenchable thirst for the battle, Jake will have to be near his best here.

On top of which, Moutet is an utter drama queen who will push the boundaries to the limit (and beyond) to scrape any win he can

I hope Jake blasts him off the court biggrin
