Trescothick was caught attempting to cut Murali.

Now Strauss has run himself out for 30. Cook didn't want to go for the run but Strauss ignored him and paid.

71-2 now

Play due to start at 12.20.

England resume on 138 for 3 with Pietersen and Hoggard at the crease.

Sri Lanka open with Vaas and Murali! Now 146 for 3. Pietersen has been beaten twice but also creamed Vaas through the covers!

It's interesting that Sri Lanka have chose not to open with Vaas and Malinga. I would have given Malinga a spell at Pietersen and Hoggard as he's quick, difficult to pick up and on a damp pitch in overcast conditions he could be a handful due to his ability to bowl swinging yorkers at pace. Then if Malinga was getting carted all over the park, I would have turned to Murali.

Luckily, Murali won't be quite as effective in these conditions.

Hopefully Hoggard can stay in for a little while, maybe until the end of Vaas' spell which would be great as then Collingwood would be coming in to one of Sri Lanka's lesser quickies.

Pietersen edges Vaas to the slips but it drops just short of them - lucky escape, England need him to go on and make a big score.

50 for Pietersen, and he's starting to open up.

Commentators saying it may be too wet for Murali to grip the ball. Fielders falling over everywhere. They may go off soon

167-3

That sounds good, the harder it is for Murali to grip the ball, the better !
Hopefully it'll make all those doosras turn into half-volleys !

It sounds as if Pietersen is in excellent form, he's on 55 now !

A 2nd lucky escape there for Pietersen, got trapped on the back foot by the doosra. BBC thought it was plumb but umpire thought it would go over the top.

Oh well, it was inevitable from the sound of things. A full, straight, yorker did for Hoggy apparently.

Hopefully Pieterseen and Colly can take us past 250
