Week 41 - WTA1000 - Wuhan, China Hard

All three remaining seeded pairs went out in the QF's. I reckon Siniakova and Alexandrova are the likely winners this week.

Pegula and Mohammad do indeed beat Fernandez and Sutjiadi so Pegula goes above Liv and we wait another week ......... although is is a new CH for Liv and Tereza equals her CH at 42 (live rankings)

Pegula and Muhammad lost to Liv and Tereza last week. Feels like a lot of teams can beat a lot of teams at the moment and Liv is part of that mix which is great.

I do feel though that doubles (and that includes the men) is struggling for a series of identifiable pairs and great rivalries that would help push the discipline forward.

Today, Gauff supports his case by serving the most double faults in a match this season, 21. That is 5 games, given away.

Ouch.

Danilina and Kromacheva beat Pegula and Mohammad in the final. So I was wrong with my prediction, and everyone seems capable of winning matches against the rest.

Danilina and Khromacheva are on fire. Four WTA titles (and six in total) since teaming up in May.

Danilina had a great 2022 with Haddad-Maia (r/u Aus Open) then fell away last couple of years. Khromacheva was junior world No. 1, but never fulfilled that promise in singles and I thought had slipped away. I love it when two players 'randomly' team up and then gel together.
