Week 41 - WTA1000 - Wuhan, China Hard

Q1: DART, Harriet (GBR) (9) 76 (CH=70 2024) v BOGDAN, Ana (ROM) 120 (CH=39 2023)

They met in the US Open in 2019 with Ana winning 3 & 1 and in Tashkent in 2019 with Harriet winning in three.

Katie should be in the main draw. Emma was listed in the original Q list but withdrew a few days ago.

Doubles - 32 team draw

R1: Tereza Mihalivikova (SVK) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR95 (47+48) v Sofia Kenin (USA) / Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) CR47 (27+20) [8]
Top seeds in their section are Errani and Paolini [4]

Sofia and Bethanie lost in the SF in Beijing today, so going to be another tough match

R1:- Harriet Dart (GBR) / Ashlyn Kruegar (USA) CR125 (61+64) v Elise Mertens (BEL) / Shuai Zhang (CHN) CR36 (6+30) [6]
I expect Harriet to pull out of this one after her retirement in singles qualifying.

Any idea what was the matter wth Harriet ? Any report of illness for example.

A pretty miserable Asian swing so far for the Brits. Retirements/injuries for Draper and Raducanu, Dart retirement, Norrie missing, and Evans struggling to pick up points. Let's see if Katie can get a run together.

L56: (Q) Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) WR 88 vs Katie Boulter WR 34

A regular opponent for Katie who is behind 1-3 in the H2H but won the last one in San Diego.

Katie definitely not on form this morning. Too many errors and serve not firing at all well.

Sad to say but Im not really surprised. Katie has had most probably one of her highest level seasons so bound to be getting tired.

Unfortunately bar the two titles and the 4th round at Miami, she hasn't had a great season.

The San Diego title is almost 33% of her points for the entire year, she made 3 2nd rounds at slams but in 2 or 3 of those she was seeded. Loses to Dart, Bouzas, Kalinina (back from injury), Montgomery, Bogdan, retired Giorgi.

Since winning Nottingham, Katie has struggled for results. I haven't seen enough of her play (outside THAT Wimbledon match) but would be interested in any comments for those that have.
