September 2024 Player of the Month Vote

17 stonkingly good nominations this month, this is a tough one!

Vote from the list below - please try and tell us when you vote and who for as it helps keep the thread and interest alive

Anyone can vote, so don't be shy.

VOTE WILL CLOSE AT 9.05 PM TUESDAY 1st OCTOBER

1. Dan Evans. Do I need to explain? For winning the longest ever US Open match over Khachanov, at 5 hours 35 minutes, and backing it up with another win over 36th ranked Navone in reaching the third round, where fatigue caught up with him. Inspiring and gutsy.

2. Max Basing currently ranked 1000+, reaching final of an M15 beating 5th seed 522 and 7th seed, highest ranking also in 500s along the way. Building on it with a run to the title M25 Bali where he beat the 4th seed ranked in the 400s in the semis, and the 8th seed ranked in the 500s along the way

3. Jack Draper. only the 4th British player to reach the US Open semi in the open era. Getting to his first slam semi final at the US Open without dropping a set including a win over the conqueror of Alcaraz and top 10 ranked De Minaur .Overcome in the semis by a combination of sickness and number 1 seed Sinner but fought to the end in a 3 hour struggle. Hes showing himself to be a potential slam winner and moves into the top 20.

4. Alfie Hewett/ Gordon Reid - winning the paralympics mens doubles gold medal - their first gold and on top of winning all 3 slams this year as well. In four matches, lost no sets and just 17 games

5. Mika Stojsavljevic - winning the us open girls singles at the age of 15! On the way beating Jovic who won a round in the women's singles. Our first winner of this since 2009 when Heather won it and only the second GB girl to reach the final since the tournament started.

6. Jan Choinski - winning his third challenger title of his career and first in over 12 months, unseeded, and getting a 100 place ranking boost to around 176 in the process

7. James Story - from qualies, came through to win his first ever ITF title at the M15 in Monastir, ranked below 2000, he beat several players in the top 1000 in the process and followed a doubles title the previous week at the same location

8. Billy Harris - for making his Davis Cup debut at the age of 29 and winning his first ever match for Team GB against Finland to give us victory in the opening Round Robin match

9. Anna McBride - for winning the womens singles title at the World Para Tennis Championships in Annecy, overcoming a tough French opponent in a 2 hours 20 minute final. Also winning the mixed doubles title and taking bronze in team and womens doubles.

10. Jake Fearnley, for winning two Challenger titles and breaking into the top 100 as a result. The first challenger was the 100-level event in Rennes in which he beat home favourite Quentin Halys in the final (after losing the first set 6-0 and fighting off a match point in the second set). En route to the final, he beat top seed Mannarino, his first victory over a top 50 player. The second event was the Orleans 125, where he saw off another French player, Harold Mayot, in the final. As well as reaching a new CH of 98, Jake is also now the GB number 3.

11. Sonay Kartal, for winning her first WTA title, as a qualifier, the Monastir 250, beating a string of top 150 players in the MD (highest WR 74), and aa a result herself charging into the top 100, at WR 96 - rising over 200 places in the last 3 months

12. Ewen Lumsden - following James Story last week, Ewen similarly comes through to win his first ITF singles title, an M15 in Monastir ( he also won the doubles ) winning unseeded. Great week for him and should now enter the top 1000

13. Ophelia Korpanec Davies - born 2009 - for doing the double and winning both singles and doubles titles, at the J60 in Mauritius

14. Jodie Burrage for winning the doubles title at the W100 in Portugal on only her second week back on Tour after a long injury break.

15. Oli Bonding - got his first ranking point in an ITF M25 in Japan, followed up with reaching the final in the big J500 Osaka event, his second J500 final of the season.

16. Clarice Ouvarova (age 13) - for doing the double in the Dominican Republic - winning both the singles and doubles - beating the Ukranian girl Rick Macci has tipped for future number one in the world - and for being a very interesting prospect

17. Oliver Tarvet - for winning the ITA All-American Championships and reaching the (yet to be played) doubles final. En route to the singles final Tarvet won each of his first four matches in straight sets against ranked opponents and has won 50 of 70 games played.

I for one have 6 options on where I could vote - if I took the other 5 out, I would feel any of these 5 could and should be player of the month

Alfie/Gordon - won a paralympic gold, for heavens sake
Anna McBride - won a World title!! Two in fact
Jack D - top 20 and US semi?!
Jake - top 100 and 2 Challenger titles at 100/125 level!
Sonay - top 100 and won a darn WTA 250 title
Mika - won a blooming US Open Girls title

I mean, they all deserve it, dont they - and probably most of the other 11 as well, tbf!

Looks like I am the first to vote - from the melay above, I had to go with my emotions, and voted Jake.

Other options are very definitely available!

Agree with your 6 standout players, Jon, but I think if we'd only had the other 11 to choose from, we'd still think it's been a very good month. Lots of really great performances at every level.

As to the vote... Normally I would vote for Jake (I keep nominating him!) but I went for Sonay as I think the 2024 PoS vote will be incomplete if she isn't included (and Jake is already qualified several times over).

(Question for Jon: who's had the most monthly winner or runner up spots in a singie year for PoM/PoS?)

I had to go for Sonay. It was tough though between Sonay and Jake.

Hmmmm

Dan? It was a great match, but kind of overshadowed by others since
Alfie and Gordon? Great achievement!
Anna? Had some great wins!
Jack? What a US Open he had!
Mika? Fabulous champion!
Jake? Say no more!
Sonay? First title, top 100?

Well, I really don't know.

Some very good contenders this month. I am voting for Mika who won the US open girls title - winning any Junior slam is huge (as can be seen by some of the former winners). Mika is the first winner since Heather in 2009 (and that was before Mika's first birthday !)

 Hard to argue with that!

like TA has done, big up the player you vote for! Many will be undecided and there is no issue with creating a bit of support.

and thanks Jan - similar turmoil in my head!

And remember, the top 2 and ties qualify for player of the season; many are already in the PoS vote, but many are not and a vote this month could help them on their way!

Start of month I thought Dan's heroic win in us open would get my vote, then Mika, and could easily have voted Jake...but....it's Sonay for me. Fantastic to get that 250k win and top 100 as a ch so far, and no doubt will get back there. And this when not the tallest player and having done her own thing in playing lots of UK tournaments and 35k ones to help get the points. A great achievement.

Mr Evans. I don't care what happened in the rest of the month - that match at the beginning of the month was one for the ages.
