The China Open is a mandatory event so does that mean she will carry a zero as one of her ranking tournaments for the next 12 months?
Yes, unless she is out for 8 weeks.
I was just trying to understand the latest fiendish set of rules. If I understand it right it looks as if a player has to include all four Grand Slams if they were eligible at the time plus 6 of the ten W1000s. So she will have to count a zero for the US Open but not a zero for the China Open if she plays 6 other W1000s. There are other issues such as receiving a WC for a Grand Slam. If you then play it has to be counted but if you are offered a WC and don't play then you don't have to count it. So Emma won't have to include the French Open in her total.

It's 10 for the USO as she actually played a match.

Apparently done something to her foot ligaments so this could be anything between 2 and 8 weeks out depending on the severity. So with Wuhan starting on 7th October that might be a stretch too.
She has the money really needs a full time physio with her I'd have thought.
L32:- Timea Babos (HUN) / Yana Sizikova (RUS) CR107 (53+54) v Katie Boulter (GBR) / Anna Kalinskaya (RUS) CR338 (296/34+126/14)
Liv and Tereza have a tough draw - and could face the top seeds Dabrowski and Routliffe in the L16.
Harriet and Ashlyn may face the 8th seeds in the next round
Katie and Anna have the 3rd seeds as potential 2nd round opponents.
Katie B will face Taylor Townsend, who beat Trevisan in three sets.
Also, a shout out to Zhang Shuai, who ended a two-year and 23-match losing streak in singles with a two-tiebreak win over McCartney Kessler in her first round.

Interesting to see Heather not playing doubles. Maybe she is injured.

I don't think Heather entered - she's not on the acceptaance list on tennis-forum.
Heather's doubles ranking was 58 when the entry list was posted on tennis-forum. The last entry had a CR of 105 so Heather would have needed a partner with singles or doubles ranking better than 46. Perhaps she couldn't get one !
