The big problem for Eysseric was that he was #1 in juniors
The french expeced great things.....
He had a LOT of injuries (but then, so do a lot of players)
And - in his own words - was pretty useless on the court in terms of mindset and mental approach - he regrets not having worked with a psychiatrist
He's been part of a French focus in tennis on 'what on earth do players do to survive and what do they do afterwards?'
There was a big article quite recently about top-500 players doing pizza delivery in the evenings, giving 10 hours straight of tennis lessons, doing any little job going, to try and make ends meet.
And then of the major problems, both practical, and mental health related, after they stop - they have no qualifications, no training for anything else, being a tennis monitor seems the only possiblity, but there's only so many tennis monitors needed, and anyway just being a good player doesn't make you necessarily a good teacher
QF: (8) Jacob Fearnley WR 126 vs Matteo Gigante (ITA) WR 155 (CH = 132 in June)
Gigante is a bigger challenge for Jake
Blinking heck Jake, Gigante is being annihilated so far! Smashes his racquet into the net, tempers! 6-1 in first set to Jake, currently 3-0 up in the second. This young man needs tougher opposition
Just watching Jake playing Gigante live. Im absolutely stunned by his level - incredible, almost faultless tennis. After Gigante scraped the first game, Jake has won 10 games in a row and counting and the Italian, whilst inconsistent, has hit a few absolute blinding passes and has a decent serve too. I genuinely feel sorry for the Italian, currently ranked around 150 - hes being made to look like an amateur. This has to be top 50 tennis from Jake, at the very least. What a fantastic prospect.
