Oli has been given a walkover to the final.

Im sure he will take that - I guess in context of NCAA etc winning this event is beneficial for seedings etc ?

I don't know what they're going to do this year for seeding. Normally they'd go with ranking with maybe one or two swapped, but the first rankings that takes into account this season's play isn't until after the NCAAs.

With a break in British action and only Oliver's doubles to come I can do an update of today's results.

As mentioned Oliver gets a walkover. Vives withdrew as a precautionary measure after experiencing pain in the pre-match warm-up. In the final Oliver will play ex TCU, now Texas Longhorn, Sebastian Gorzny who has just won an epic SF 7-5 5-7 7-5. Oliver said his targets this year are to win tomorrow, get to #1 this year and get San Diego to the final 8 next May.

The other good news is Sofia Johnson progresses to the semi-final of the consolation draw to play for a place in the NCAAs. There she will play #2 ranked Dasha (Darja in WTA/ITF) Vidmanova who I had missed when I looked at the draw this morning. Dasha has a WTA ranking of 484. Should Sofia win it will be a huge upset and there have been plenty of them this week. Cracked Racquets are already calling this Sofia's breakout event.

Sofia doesn't make life easy for herself, losing the 1st set in both her matches today but she came back to win the first match 3-6 6-1 6-3 against Perry. In the QF she played Michigan's Piper Charney (ranked 55). She lost the 1st set 4-6. Won the 2nd 6-2. And a great tussle in the 3rd where they traded multiple breaks and went to a 3rd set tie-break which Sophia won 7-4.

She said over the summer she is working to go pro when she finishes college so it will be interesting to see how she matches up to a top 500 WTA player who over the summer won 3 ITF titles and reached the SF of a W75. She has the game, she just needs to find the consistency.

Grace lost her consolation match against Horner in straight sets.
#1 Mary Stoiana has reached the SF in Grace's half of the draw. I'm sure when they devised this format they didn't envision the 2 qualifying spots to be taken by the top 2 ranked players. Hopefully there will be an upset to stop that happening.

Grace+ also lost her doubles SF against NC State 5-7 5-7

And Will Jansen didn't progress in the consolation draw.

When I checked earlier, the schedule for tomorrow wasnt published - do you know the timings for Oli and Sofia tomorrow (our time)?

Sofia is 3pm. Oli's singles has not been scheduled yet, but I expect it to be 6pm. He's just made the doubles final too which will be after the singles.

Would you believe it? Oliver is the ITA All-American champion without hitting a ball in the semi final or final.

F: [3] Oliver Tarvet (San Diego) defeated Sebastian Gorzny (Texas) by Walkover

Well, however he got there, great for Oli to become the champion. And he did, after all, win all the matches that put him in a position to get two walkovers!

And not forgetting Sofia. As I feared, unfortunately Vidmanova had too much for her as she loses 1 & 2.
She will need to try again at the Regionals for a NCAA spot. She is the No 2 ranked in her region, but Virginia is in her region with several strong players who are likely to give her competition for a place in the final and a spot in the NCAAs.

Hadn't appreciated that the individual NCAAs had moved from May to November the previous year. An interesting decision so early I'm the school year.
