The women's draw is blown wide open as the top 3 seeds fall. That's a bigger shock than in the men as the top 2 are regarded as being head and shoulders above the rest of the women.
Ro32: Sofia Johnson (ODU) 37 DEFEATED [Q/PQ] Imogen Haddad (USC) UNR | 6-2 6-1 Ro32: Grace Piper (USC) 36 DEFEATED Lily Jones (Michigan) 45 | 6-2 6-1
--- Tomorrow there are 2 rounds and there is a wind advisory in place all day as the remnants of Hurricane Helene pass by.
The standard of opposition for Sofia ramps up as she faces the 6th seed. I think her highest career ranking win was the opening round this week over the 16th ranked, so she's up against it. But she seems in good form, and will not have expended as much energy as her opponent. Grace's opponent knocked out the #3 ranked woman today so may not be as favourable as first appears on ranking.
Ro16: Sofia Johnson (ODU) 37 vs [6] Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine) 8 Ro16: Grace Piper (USC) 36 vs Elze Thomase (Tennessee) 62
I'll post the men when Ollie's opponent has been decided.
In the doubles, only 1 seed has made it through to the quarter-finals in both the mens and womens draws. Many of the teams are new so seedings were always going to be unreliable as a guide.
In the mens we have Oliver Tarvet and Lui Maxted through to the QF and 1 win away from NCAA qualification.
Lui and Pedro Vives play Miladinovic and Brostrom Poulsen from Baylor. On paper Lui and Pedro have far superior WTNs but with the NCAAs being at Baylor this year it will give the Baylor team an incentive to perform at their best and the pressure of qualification always has the potential to affect all teams.
Oliver and Stan Klassen play the 3rd seeds Tokac and Perego of Texas A&M. The 3rd seeds defeated Billy Blaydes & Will Nolan in the first round. Oliver+ defeated Luca Pow+ in the opening round.
Alex Okonkwo+ and 2nd seeds Freddy Blaydes+ lost in the opening round. Hugo+ lost in the 2nd round.
In the womens draw Grace Piper with Lily Fairclough beat the 2nd seeds to get through to the QFs where they play the 5th seeds from Florida International. Millie+ lost in the 2nd round and Imogen+ lost in the opening round.

Unsurprisingly the matches have been scheduled to be played over at the UNC campus and their indoor facilities. The 3rd seed who Elze defeated yesterday was carrying an injury affecting her ability to serve and her movement which puts a different spin on Grace's prospects.
Imogen has declined her place in the consolation draw giving a walkover due to injury. That is sensible as the consolation draw is brutal and to qualify for a NCAA place she would have had to play 5 matches over 3 days on top of what she has already played, which was never going to happen. She did have her serving shoulder taped yesterday. Gabia is continuing in the consolation draw after receiving a walkover in the opening round and plays Leylah's sister Bianca Fernandez.
Its the consolation draw for Grace and Sofia. So close for Sofia after an error strewn 1st set. She served for the match at *5-3 but Broadus reeled off the last 4 games

Craig was difficult to break down in the 2nd set but Oli finally got the win. Lui lost to former Frog, Gorzny, who less than a week after clinching the Natty for TCU in May transferred to Texas.
QF: Lui Maxted (TCU) 39 LOST TO Sebastian Gorzny (Texas) 30 | 3 & 4 QF: [3] Oliver Tarvet (San Diego) 3 DEFEATED [Q] Corey Craig (FSU) UNR | 0 & 6(1)
Olli will either play Zheng, the only other remaining seed in the draw, or TCU's Vives in the SF.
