That ws a 20 point game. Emma had 5 match points, but lost the 4th break point. (TNNS match details)

Wobble in the end on her serve but managed to break again for the win! Overall some really impressive stuff from Emma - had some huge aces, winners and she was taking the return early a la US Open 2021. Lots of positives to take from this performance - let's hope she can build on it.

Two Top 50 wins in straight sets. Hanging tough. It occurs to me that no British player has every match under the microscope like Emma does.

Very good to hear. It's far from the first time since that US Open that she has been very positive, in particular standing up and attacking second serves, gets a very good win, and we think yes, that's the way to do it. And then a match ot two later she reverts!  Emma, over to you ...

True. I also thought she was trialling a few things in this match, eg taking the return early and aggressively and then coming to the net. She did that twice in a row at one point.

She said she will play Beijing and Wuhan, so hopefully with consistent match play she can push on. Up to live #54

5th win in a row against a top 50 player from Wimbledon on ( Badosa and Kenin were a bit outside the top 50 when she lost to them, Lulu Sun outside the top 100 ). 12/7 Win/Lose record against top 50 players this year, 25/21 in her career.

She has always had clear top 50 ability since her breakthrough year. It's a question of getting out there and producing it consistently and truly seeing where she can get to.

Ah, I thought it was weird that TNNS was showing that the match hadn't finished!

I only saw it from half-way through the second set

But well done to Emma, and well done to Nick Cavaday

She actually looked like she had a gameplan - that she knew what she wanted to do with the points

Far more on the front-foot, very good first serves, stepping in and hustling her opponent

And great crowd

Fantastic. She'll get better with each match, that was definitely a step up from the last one. Well done Emma!!
