Week 38 - WTA500 - Seoul, Korea Hard

Doubles

L16:- Olivia Nicholls (GBR) / Tereza Mihalicova (SVK) CR98 (50+48) lost to Hao-Ching Chan (TPE) / Veronila Kudermetova (***) CR45 (19+26) [1] 4-6 2-6 (was always a tough draw)

L16:- Heather Watson (GBR) / Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) CR79 (58+21) [4] lost to Shuko Aoyama (JPN) / Eri Hozumi (JPN) CR95 (44+51) 0-6 6-4 4-10
Probably needed a bit more practice together - Bethanie was quite a late arrival

Great tournament for Heather so far who has made the most of a very soft succession of opponents.

Good win for Emma too. Her forehand still doesn't look right to me. I'm not expert enough to remark on her grip and whether her injuries have affected this shot but she doesn't seem to hit through it all the time often meaning there are quite a few half court balls for her opponent to attack.
She also looked drained by the end. Conditions are really tough though and I believe play was delayed by an hour at the start of the day because of this. Clearly Emma isn't as match fit as she really needs to be, but, when you play so little match play tennis it is hardly surprising. Let's hope she has some energy left for the next round.

Heather lost 2 and 2. Shame for her, but pretty convincing defeat.

I think Kostyuk has the kind of game where she really thrives off having a ball to hit - which Heather gives her in abundance sadly. Good points haul, and an expected loss.

I think we'll see Heather focusing on doubles and playing singles where she can get in.

Raducanu playing some really decent stuff, but it's so clear she needs to get more match play.

Never seen Yuan play before, she has a huge forehand and hits big on the backhand too. Difficult to win the point if she gets on the front foot.

Emma was cruising *3-0 but has been pegged back to *3-2. Yuan is hitting the lines again, and Emma's gone slightly off the form that won her 6 games in a row.

They announced the score as 6-4 6-2 to Emma. Then it went back to 5-2 deuce. After a long delay the match continued through several deuces before the score moved on to 5-3.

Good win for Emma! What she needs even more matches. It was 6-3 in the final set.

Just typical that the WTA site is running at least 10 minutes behind actual play. According to them the match hasn't finished yet !

EDIT:- So it wasn't running behind !
