Week 37 - WTA250 - Jasmin Open, Monastir, Tunisia - Hard

What a week for Sonay. So close now to getting our 4th top 100 women's player for GB.

Fantastic week for Sonay, whatever happens in the final, but fingers crossed she can take the title!

I was disappointed not to see her play  as i've missed her other matches and was 'all set',  but still  great for her to get a rest before tomorrow.  Sorry for the other girl who was all  friendly and smiley when she walked on but    'brave face' probably as she had been feeling poorly  all week I think they said.

They had a very close encounter in Bath last year when Rebecca won two tie breaks in a three set match, so it won't take much to edge the match to a different result.

Hope she wins tomorrow though she would then jump above my prediction....

3. Sonay 106

Unfortunately I had Emma as my reserve as I wasn't sure she would get top 100 so quickly and forgot to sub her in after Wimbledon....never mind.

So Sonay has never won a WTA main draw match before this week???

Wonderful from Sonay - and 4 in the top 100 would be incredible.

(Apropos of nothing, but I noticed Australia is in a very bizarre position rankings wise - no-one between 1-100, no-one between 200-300, but 13 women between 101 and 199!)

This will change next week. Gadecki's run to the Guadalajara final will take her to #88 on Monday.

Just in case......who can remember whose first wta title was not even as a qualifier but as a lucky loser, it was just under 5 years ago?

Some very close games early in the match but Sonay now in charge. Sramkova looking very flustered.

*4-1
