L32: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 452 defeated Antoine Escoffier (FRA) WR 217 by 4 & 1
Excellent to see. First main draw win at this level or higher I believe since Winston-Salem in August 2022. First time he has won 3 games in a week since Sunderland ITF in January.

L16: (WC) Marin Cilic (CRO) WR 1082 (CH = 3 in January 2018) vs (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 452
Cilic will be 36 at the end of this month. He survived a battle with the local sixth seed, Blanchet, beating him by 6-7(5) 6-2 7-6(4), in his first round match.
Delighted for Kyle. We have been waiting for 'take-off' for a long time with his comeback. This is probably the best result he has had for a long time.
Time for revenge. Repeat of the AO Open Semi-final from 2018.
I wonder how long Liam Broady will go on for? It must be really hard to toil away at obscure events after he had broken into the top 100 late in his career only to get a bad imjury

Yes, but just like Dan Evans, we have to ask: what are they going to do instead? How are they going to earn their wage?
Liam has the benefit of knowing he'll (almost certainly) get favourable treatment each time Wimbledon comes round - and quite rightly given the Davis Cup service he's done, as training partner etc
Liam is only 30. I guess it depends if he thinks he can shake the injury and get back - my feeling is he will feel he has unfinished business ie to play atp tour as a top 100 player; and so will try his best when ready to get back to that level. I reckon he will give it a couple of years more, for sure.
I did notice him at the BBC on the breakfast sofa a couple of times in the summer talking about Andys retirement on one occasion, maybe he will gravitate towards the media like Naomi, at some point in the future.

Yes, I think Liam is a far more natural fit for media, say, than Dan (although I'd like to hear Dan's spiky comments )
But he's too young for that, and the big money will not be there - his earning potential is still miles higher in tennis than in commentating and, as I've heard certain players say quite pointedly, everyone underestimates this, talking about sport as some 'ideal', whereas it's also - and importantly - a job, like any other
