Fantastic win for Dan .

Hes a joy to watch and what a superb effort after that first round match . Its a shame hes got such a tough 3rd round match to come against De Minaur .

He certainly deserved a kinder draw .

It is the L32 stage of a Slam. And Alex's Slam record is less than scarey.

Of course it still looks a very tough ask but far from the worst. Go, Dan!

Oh, wow, and in straight sets, BvDZ beat Alcaraz.

Shows, we should never assume anything is scary or end of the road. These guys are all good players. Nonetheless, Jack will be happy with that!

Opportunity for Jack and Dan - per Russell Fuller on the BBC site

A string of upsets in this section of the draw means someone will play in their first Grand Slam semi-final at this US Open.
The opportunity falls to Van de Zandschulp and his third round opponent Jack Draper - along with the 10th seed Alex de Minaur, Matteo Arnaldi and the unseeded Dan Evans, David Goffin, Tomas Machac and Jordan Thompson.

Did not expect to wake up to those series of results. It's De Minaur's section to lose now and that might out additional pressure on him.

That VDZ result was insane. He was playing so badly this year that he was thinking of retiring.!

I think AdM or Jack will be looking at it and have expectations - Tennis Abstraft rates it Jacks as most likely to come through from. Jack rated a 31% chance for semis, Thompson second rated and AdM 3rd to reach the semis in that section.
Lets see.

But I think Machac will be one to watch.

I love this place and the passion and knowledge of the many posters, but the following is peak British Tennis forum:

- Description of clay-obsessed Navone as an unlucky draw several pages back

- Sighing about Evo having to play a top-16 seed in the last 32, as a non-seed who was in the same initial section as a 17-32 placed seed

A lot of hits on the trope bingo card.

(PS I am well aware that 95% who post here are far more realistic)

If ABvDZ can beat Alcaraz, then Evo can see off Alex . No?

Agreed. Anyone can beat anyone on their day. Dan is more than capable, but still the underdog

Great to see both come through.

Shocked at the Alcaraz result. Something not right there.

Good chance for Jack now to shows what he can do.
