L128:  Roberto Carballés (ESP) WR 54 defeated (Q) Jan Choinski WR 280 by 6-2 6-3 5-7 6-7(5) 6-3  hmm

A very creditable effort from Jan, especially after going two sets down!

Dang - good effort and with qualifying he should be proud of his efforts.

Anyone know where his ranking will go - outside the top 200 still?

Choinski could have won this match . You cant blow 7 break points in two games . So it might be creditable to get back to two sets all but a loss is a loss .

Fair bit off the top 200 still. Showing as live ranked 229 on 239 points ( after 40 points from here ) with live ranked 200 on 283 points. Still of course with all the further points players will add before the next rankings up date in 2 weeks time.

Oh well, step in right direction though - thanks Indy.

Yup, Jan had the momentum, and missing 7 break points in his opponent's first 2 service games of the final set was crucial. Carballes hadn't won a hard court match this summer so a decent draw.

Yes, great to qualify but he got himself into position to have a real crack at getting through a MD round too. Pity.

Jack may have had a bit of a tough time of it since Cinci (cf. BBC article posted on his dedicated thread), but it looks as though FAA, the 19th seed here, may have suffered as well:  he lost earlier to the 18-year-old Czech, Jakub Mensik (WR 65), by 2, 4 & 2!

Zhang Zhizhen is struggling here. He's just had the trainer out (knee problem) and dropped the second set to love. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't finish the match

L128:  (25) Jack Draper WR 25 defeated Zhang Zhizhen (CHN) WR 41 by 6-3 6-0 4-0 retired

I thought that it was beginning to look a bit too easy after the first set...

If your opponent retires in a match is that still a counter for number of British wins in the US open?

Dan Evans has got his teeth into this one. He's just leveled at one set all.
