Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open - Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard) - main draw

Jannik Sinner wins the US Open in straight sets 3-4-5.

I think that Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are a half step ahead of the other young seeds in terms of natural talent but still, Jack Draper improved massively in the last year and he's young enough to improve hugely again.

It's like Andy Murray never quite had the raw talent of the big three throughout his career but he still won a few Grand Slams.

He just had to work harder.

Interesting. Personally I'd put Andy in the debate with Djokovic and Nadal for raw talent. Federer would be #1 for that era.

I suppose that it will be some small consolation to Jack that he lost to the eventual winner & that even Fritz (12) couldn't take a set off him.

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted:

SF:  (1) Jannik Sinner (ITA) WR 1 defeated (25) Jack Draper WR 25 by 7-5 7-6(3) 6-2

The fact that he threw up on court at least twice (second set) is a bit worrying.

David Walsh's thoughts in The Sunday Times on Jack's nerve-induced sickness.  Encouraging...
