Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open - Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard) - main draw

Jack is the only player left not to have dropped a set. He is the lowest seeded player left in the last 8 (all the 8 are seeded) and Tennis Abstract rate him as 6th favourite - and favoured to upset AdM in his next match.

Nothing to lose really, with Sinner as a possible last 4 opponent, hard to see him getting beyond that stage (although you never know) but beating AdM is certainly something he can achieve.

Much, much easier than I expected - except when he almost lost the eighth game of the third set!  The decaf coffee only rule must be working!  wink

The young bucks lock horns:

QF:  (25) Jack Draper WR 25 vs (10) Alex de Miñaur (AUS) WR 10

Beeb report on Jack's match against Machac & his picking up the baton passed on by Andy.

Like Machac, Draper is 3-0 down in the head-to-head against De Minaur. A good omen?

Another win would take Jack top 20. That would be a nice spring board into the autumn season.

Fritz beats Zverev in 4 sets to reach his first Slam SF

He will play Dimitrov or Tiafoe in the SF ( neither of them has got past the SF stage before so we will have a maiden Slam finalist ).

Bottom half is wide open. I fancy Dimitrov to get through to the final and win the whole event - I think hes been building for 12 months to this.

Just watch, hell lose tonight now!

And he did lose! At least by retirement. So, an American finalist guaranteed.

Jack is second match on today, depends how long the first takes but somewhere around 6-30/7?

Go, Jack !!!

A little nervous towards the end of that set - and Alex dM will have some questions about his play - but Jack banks it - 6-3

There's talk in the Beeb's live text commentary the AdM may be suffering a bit physically...

Yet Jack is the first to get treatment - right thigh bandaged.

At *2-1 to Jack in the second set:

Jack Draper is getting a lot of tape applied to his upper right leg.

They have just shown Alex de Minaur wincing on the big screen while Draper gets his treatment. The Briton will certainly know about it.

At 3-1*:

Jack Draper has had plenty of injury problems in his career. He must be pleading for his body to hold up now. He's a set and a break to the good as he bids for a first Grand Slam semi-final.

The good news is Draper looks absolutely fine in this service game - a hold to love.

So Jack has just equa!lled Emma's 14 sets in a row at the US Open main draw! Hoping he can just keep it going but I also enjoy seeing a bit more of a battle so last set was interesting.

Fabulous!  Starts to redress the head-to-head balance:  now 1-3.  Sinner (1) or Medvedev (5) in the semi...
