Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open - Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard) - main draw

First year since 2002 (yes 2002) that none of the big 3 have won a Slam.

About time really.

Is Novak bothered about carrying on now? His game is based on physicality and endurance and its becoming clear that isnt where it used to be. His ranking is now slipping and hell finally end up with tough draws. I cant believe how easy some of his GS draws have been over the years.

I think the Olympics gold medal , on clay, was a big deal for him
I doubt this loss matters to him too much

Jack playing ok , pretty average but still too good for Van De Zandschulp .

Hes just doing enough and hopefully he can  up his level a bit to make sure he wins this in 3 sets .

Much easier than I expected:

L32:  (25) Jack Draper WR 25 defeated Botic van de Zandschulp (NED) WR 74 by 3, 4 & 2  smile

I presume that the Carlitos match was his final!  smile

*****

L16:  (25) Jack Draper WR 25 vs Tomás Machac (CZE) WR 39 (CH = 33 in June)

Good to see there were no last minute dramas . Overall Draper did what he had to do . He will have to play better in the next round as the Dutchman played poorly today and Id give Jack 7/10 .

Would be great to see Dan joining him in the fourth round .

Tim Henman said that Zandschulp didn't play as well as he did against Alcaraz (I'll have to take his word for that as I didn't see it) but that kind of dip in form happens a lot after lofty overachieving wins. It happened to Jack after he beat Alcaraz at Queens.
