Charlie Robertson

Charlie Robertson, born 2006, has been heavily featured by the Mail over the last couple of days.

He has a junior career high ranking of 25 and is currently JWR30.

From Forfar, he was at the National Academy in Stirling until it closed this summer. He is now unsupported and seeking funding.
The Murrays are big fans and Jamie asked him to be a hitting partner at Queens where he hit with Dimitrov. Andy invited him to Greece to be his hitting partner to prepare for the Olympics.
He works with Matt Little on conditioning.

In the J300 College Park this week he defeated the No 1 seed who is JWR 3.

EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Robertson aiming high as the 17-year-old looks to use New York and a summer with the Murrays as the springboard to success (Mail on MSN)

Great idea to give him his own thread - I'd put the Mail link in the Others events as there was nowhere obvious for it to go - so glad this is here now

Just to add:

Charlie was runner-up in the U18 National Championships this year, losing a really tight three setter to Oliver Bonding

He's a slightly built lad, but very dynamic

He was coached by Jonnie O'Mara's dad

There have been interesting articles about his parents having to sell/mortgage (?) their business, in order to raise funds, as Tennis Scotland wouldn't support him

But currently going very well:

Colette Lewis did a nice interview with him in Maryland, following the victory above

And he's now won today too, beating the 10th seed in two sets

Thanks for starting this Lamda! Been follwoing him for at least a year and good to see he is making progress! I hope he can get the funding he deserves as he is a great prospect and evidently works hard :)

A really interesting article, on many levels, in the Telegraph, and not behind a paywall here

Andy's influence on young Charlie's career - Stu Fraser in today's Times.  Repeats much of the content of the Telegraph article
