Weeks 35-36 - Grand Slam US Open-Main Draw - Hard

Harriet is third on Court 16 tomorrow, after two men's matches (Jan in the first)

First set Harriet 6-1. Pretty ruthless - hitting very confidently and aggressively off both wings. Moving up to the baseline after every shot. Great set from her. Paquet offering little so far.

9 games out of 10 for Harriet. 6-1 3-0 up. The train keeps on chugging. Fingers crossed she can keep this very short and sweet!

Wow, great result from Harriet! Would love to see her carrying on that kind of form and approach to her game.

Really happy for Harriet. Winning a match that she should win and doing so in style. Up into Top 70, which I have to be honest I didn't see happening.

A fantastic win for Iva Jovic over Magda Linette. We've chatted a lot about Iva on these boards as a junior rival to Hannah (albeit two years older), and I was really impressed with her at Wimbledon. A reminder in the women's game that if you're good enough you're old enough.

Glad to see Harriet progress so we can put the ghastly thought of another Brits abroad type nightmare away like happened in the French Open.

The difference is that Brits do much better on hard and grass courts, the French open is the weakest because it's played on clay, sorry, perhaps that is stating the obvious.

Brilliant performance from Harriet.

Fully expecting Katie to win later on too. Hard to say with Emma but she does have a decent chance. Good luck to both.

I think Emma should win. Kenin has not had a good year with lots of first round losses. She had two good tournaments at the tail end of last year and not much since. She has 1000 ranking points from her best 18 tournaments out of 24 while Emma has 900 from 11 tournaments. In the race Kenin is 103 to Emma's 49.
