Good grief what a horror show from Boulter . The Spaniard clearly very nervous , then Katie decides to donate the last two games on a plate after coming to back to 5-5 .
She had the momentum and at that point youd think shes going to go and win the set now and likely the match .
Mentally that was an absolutely dreadful show .
A shame to see Katie go out in such fashion, but I doubt she'll get even a tenth of the horrid criticism Emma has received for her loss including this spiteful article in the Mail.
And Jenni Murray used to present Women's Hour which makes this unnecessary criticism particularly disloyal.
While the headline is unpleasant and unnecessary (but that would have been written by a sub-editor in search of clicks, not Jenni Murray), apart from that I think that the article is largely accurate.
Edit: ... and Ms Boulter may come in for less criticism from the general public (and the gutter press) because she isn't seen with Porsches, Tiffany diamonds and first class travel quite as frequently as Ms Raducanu, so she isn't seen as quite as "spoiled"..

Hmm, Katie really been struggling for form since and wincluding Wimbledon. Has had nice draws all over the place but hasnt been able to take advantage.
Maybe shes reached her peak now?
Perhaps losing to Harriet at Wimbledon has effected her game mentally?

I'd hardly call Emma spoiled given she lived with her parents until recently and still drives her old Dacia as often as a Porsche. Many of her contemporaries are tax exiles in Monaco and Dubai yet get less criticism than Emma does.

It's not fair at all and is at best inaccurate and at worst deliberately misleading. To say that Andy has never wasted time on endorsements is blantantly misleading. I remember one GS where he delayed the interview because he wasn't wearing the watch he was paid large amounts to endorse. No-one begrudges him any of those things but I'm sure he would have taken those endorsements equally if he'd happened to have won GS at the age of 19. Who wouldn't? Two of his past vehicles have included an Aston Martin and a Ferrari, so he's hardly schlepping around in a VW Golf.
To imply that Martina Navratilova would have carried on playing when in pain after recently undergoing two wrist operations is also absurd. Emma has said herself that she tried to push through her come back and it set her back a few months.
There are some reasonable points in terms of her attitude to her coaches and her choice of tournaments which is fair criticism but the overall tone of the article is mean-spirited and a pile-on. She's made mistakes and is possibly at times poorly advised but I do think there's a level of vitriol that is out of proportion to anything she has done and personally I think words like spoilt and ego wouldn't be bandied around for a 21 year old male player.

The Daily Mail specialises in negativity and misinformation. Unfortunately there is a large body of people that seem to thrive on negativity and misinformation. Is Jenni Murray a regular reporter on tennis or is this just a trash piece written to order?

Sorry - I'll take that on the chin: I'm in that part of the general public that doesn't -Gram, Insta- or otherwise. I only know what I see on the TV/ in the papers. I don't know what the gutter press's excuse is.
I would dearly love to see Ms Raducanu succeed and regain her rightful position as UK number one, but from a lot of the decisions that she (and/ or "her team") make it is certainly possible to gain the impression that because she is a US Open winner, hard work and application shouldn't be required. I blame be the despicable Lame Stream Media for misleading me.
... personally I think words like spoilt and ego wouldn't be bandied around for a 21 year old male player.
Knowing the British press, I think that they would (they tend to be equal opportunity critics), but that shouldn't be allowed to detract from the narrative that she is an attractive female, so it must be sexism.
... doesn't quite explain why Ms Boulter is expected to get "[less than] a tenth of the horrid criticism Emma has received" - unless Ms Boulter is too old, maybe?

Sorry, that was maybe a bit harsh. Instagram is good to follow not only the top players but the youngsters. They are so enthusiastic and respond to messages and comments when they know you are half decent. Worth a try if you want to give it a go.
News sites aren't about reporting, they are about engagement in the same way that instagram and Twitter are. More clicks mean more revenue and negativity gets more clicks.
It's just human nature. The same as reviews, people are more likely to leave a negative review than a positive one.
Katie Boulter won her three titles rather later in her career and can be seen to have worked here way up. Emma's rise was meteoric. She played her first WTA tournament in Nottingham on June 6th 2021, On June 28th she played at Wimbledon, reaching the 4th round, the youngest GB player ever to do so. So she was already showing signs of an extraordinary talent. On Aug 16th she reached the final of the WTA125 in Chicago. On Aug 30th she entered and won the US Open. At that point she had been playing WTA events for about two and a half months.
Emma also did very well in her A levels, can play the piano and paint, she also happens to be very photogenic. She seems to have everything which makes her an obvious target for the Daily Fail and anyone else with a tendency to negativity. Unfortunately Emma's explosive reactions makes her vulnerable to injury, more a Greyhound than a Wolfhound. This year she has been very cautiously trying to balance training and match play in order to avoid further injury to her wrists and ankle. Some of her decisions have worked out well and others not so. Having slipped up in her preparation for the US Open she needs to collect some more ranking points on the Asia tour in order to avoid the need for further wild cards. Watching her progress should be interesting.

Really? I can't remember seeing daily articles about British male players calling them spoilt and complaining about spending too much time on endorsements. I'd love to see your sources?
Indy, I agree. All this negativity makes me cheer her on more. If the media stuck to facts and reasonable criticism rather than hyperbole and personal attacks then I'd think they probably had a point.
