Week 34 - Grand Slam US Open, USA - QUALIFYING - Hard

Anyone else watching the Jubb match on Sky Sports? Trying to work who is on commentary with Mike Cation.

QR2:  (q27) Otto Virtanen (FIN) WR 125 defeated Paul Jubb WR 192 by 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3  cry

Paul broke Virtanen in the opening game of the decider, but couldn't hold on.  hmm

With 3/4 Brits in the same section of the draw, really disappointing that none could reach the final round. Virtanen is a decent player, but normally best on fast indoor surfaces, and I don't think the US Open is crazy fast.

Well that was a little less stressful - apart from that last game.

Do qualifying points go on at the end of this week, or do we have to wait until the end of the US Open for them to be added ?

Thanks.  I'm looking at live rankings and there doesn't seem to be any addition which would suggest you are correct.

This is Vacherot's first event since Halle. So a good draw for Jan and timely.

Yes, at which point Billy is due to drop 16 points from a challenger tournament from last year, ie  exactly the same points as he has so far earned for reaching the FQR here, so provisionally still on 552 points.

Of course any more wins here put him into profit, 30 + 10 for qualifying and playing MD R1 being a net 24 point boost. Plus he is down for a challenger in the week beginning 02/09 ( Shanghai 100 ). Many others too will be playihg various tournaments on the coming two weeks.

So be quite a bit of overall rankings toing and froing before we get to the post US Open 09/09 rankings.
