Week 33 - WTA 1000 - Cincinnati, USA (outdoor hard)

Its interesting in the doubles that SEVENTEEN of the live ranked top 50 are not playing here.

Conversely none of the top 28 on the mens side are missing. In the womens singles 11 of the top 50 missing.

Wow! It feels like its been a long time since a British female player has been in a masters doubles semifinal.

Hoping that Stephen has the answer...

Laura Robson with Lisa Raymond in Miami 2013 is the only one I can think of.

Good one, a final indeed. Heather was my go to search but that drew a blank.

What about Anna Smith, playing with Jade Cutis? Didn't they play top level WTAmatches?

Think you mean Joss Rae. They did have solid Tour careers and won a handful of matches at Slams but I don't believe they ever went deep in an event above 250 level.

Don't forget Sarah Borwell who was doing great until she got hit on the head.

'With her doubles ranking high enough for her to enter the main draw of many WTA tournaments without having to qualify. She reached the quarterfinals of four International tournaments: Birmingham Classic, Hobart International, Mexican Open and the Monterrey Open. She also made the semifinal of the main tour event in Bad Gastein. In 2010, Borwell teamed up full-time with American Raquel Kops-Jones. So far, they had made three quarterfinals but their highlight has been a semifinal in the WTA Tour events at Ponte Vedra Beach and Stanford.'

(Sorry, not Masters' events but  still think she should get a mention)

Was the Kremlin Cup at that level? Anna Smith and Nicola Melichar reached the final in 2017.

The Kremlin cup was a Premier 700 in 2017, so just a little lower.

The WTA website is now showing Pegula v Muchova as the first match on Court 7 with Liv+ v Harriet+ to follow. But play hasn't started on this court yet although others have

Sounds possible. WTA, ATP and TNNS are all showing the same time as Centre Court - which started about 30 minutes ago.

Out of interest - if a player has got themselves fit enough to play competitively and without danger, but chooses to rest until their SR kicks in - is that allowed? Who would know I guess?!

It's a fairly well trodden path to wait until a SR kicks in. And apart from who would know who else should be able to really say that a player is ready to go.
