Both our players suffered a bagel set.

Well that is depressing news to start the day.

That's really bizarre symmetry. Both Harriet and Katie win the first set, lose the second set 6-0 and trail 4-1 in the third. I know that can and does happen, but how did it happen?

But Poots  is on very good form currently, so  in my opinion unlikely she will go through.

Darn, so she might not win the title

Poots was in the main draw for Canada but pulled out before the start with a knee injury and was replaced by lucky loser Taylor Townsend. Then Dayana Yastremska retired in her 1st round match against Townsend. I wonder if these players will be fit to play this week.

Poots obviously recovered quickly from last weeks knee problem.

Wouldn't it be easier if they could just be honest about why they pull out, not that I understand the logic of that particular withdrawal. But anyone can see that there is no injury involved so why do they have to invent one?

I assume otherwise they get fined?

Yes, I don't think it's the players fault as such - it's the WTA for having that system which is set up in such a way so they're forced to lie

That's what I mean. Just scrap the rule and let them do what they're going to do anyway without having to post bs about their health.

Katie was a very complexing watch last night. She was playing lights out tennis in the first set, like she was at the United Cup and San Diego, and then completely took her foot off the pedal and let Linette take charge. A match she should have won, I wonder if the humid conditions took Katie out? She lost 9 games in a row after winning the first set.

Katies game has been in a bit of a slump since Nottingham really. Hope she can turn things around again and not turn out like Norrie (1/2 season peak)

Shuai Zhang has lost here, making it 24 straight matches , a record (beats Spadea) at ATP/WTA level

Good win for Harriet and Ellen. But now the draws get tough - it is a Premier Mandatory after all.

Nicely done. Harriet up to doubles live ranked 84. The battle still on for GB doubles #1

Kichenok and Ostapenko are seeded #5. The winners of the two matches meet in the quarter-finals.
