I was impressed by both Hannah and Mimi. Hannah gets a surprising amount of power in her shots and seems able to absorb it coming back. She seems very flexible almost a contortionist at times. She should have won but got a bit down on herself and the world in the last few games. Mimi seems very comfortable playing at the net, several times she pulled her opponent to the net with a drop shot and then either lobbed her or swapped volleys at the net. However at times the drop shot didn't work, but making a better choice of when to use it should develop with time. She seems to like hitting down the lines rather than cross court and won several points that way.
Looks like they are both off to Canada next for a Grade1 junior tournament in Repetigny (as 1st and 3rd seeds), as a warm up for the US Open.
Yes, along with Mika (and Allegra)
There's two J300s that are the traditional warm-up events - next week it's the College Park one which Mika was inscribed for but then withdrew. And then Canada.
Some players are doing all three, some top players are just doing the two (like our players are) and some are just turning up for the US Open straight off (and the savvy ones who just want points are playing the J300 in Pancevo next week where the standard is SO much lower so really nice easy chance for good points)
A brilliant week for Mimi. That win will see her leapfrog Hannah in the rankings and put her just one point behind Ella. I think it should also put her into the top 500.
