Why on earth are people disregarding the Instagram story from Kalinina a whole two days ago saying she was withdrawing from Toronto? Why is that not considered solid evidence?

Probably because nobody saw it - she isn't one that I follow and I doubt whether any of the other regular posters follow her either.

Is Liv playing her match tomorrow with the chance of going to GB number one?

I haven't seen the OOP for tomorrow yet (probably far too early in Toronto), but as they have 8 doubles matches on the schedule today I expect them to play the other 8 tomorrow.

And one win will take her past Heather. Her lowest counter is currently 57 points, and it is 120 points for a first round win.

Kalinina is  currently no 6 (6th August 2024 rankings )on the list  of the highest ranked   players not to have reached the last 16 of a Grand Slam. Katie is no 2 on that list. Kalinina had to withdraw from the Olympics with illness. When they were playing on the ITF circuit she beat  Jo Konta in the final of the Jackson MS 25k tournament April 2015.

Shnaider is not playing well...

Harriet leads 3-6 6-3 *1-0 but break points down...

1-1* final set. Harriet has saved 12 of 16 break points, which is why she's got this far.

Shnaider was playing the Olympic doubles final three days ago. Her preparation would have been non existent.

Think Harriet is on double fault #11, which is high to say the least.

She's nudged ahead a break again, but 15-30 now...

Shnaider should have taken this week off after two busy weeks on the clay, winning Budapest and runner up in the Olympic doubles. Come on Harriet, make the most of this chance ! *2-1 30-40

Harriet has an opening at 4-4 30-0* but can't get a break point and now all the pressure on her.

*4-5

She served for it at *6-5. Saved four break points but not a fifth. No match points and entirely on the Russians racket.

Tiebreak.

Never in contention in the breaker. Incredibly close but to be honest she was mainly reliant on her opponent making mistakes, and sadly she didn't make any on the three deuce points at *6-5.

Was a chance though, would have put her inside the top 70.
