Comments on twitter suggest Harriet hurt herself and by the end could barely stand on her left leg. I've no idea how the injured happened, but such a shame when she was doing so well.

Oh how sad when she was on for a win and some very good points.

Harriet has a lucky loser place, against no. 14 seed Diana Shnaider WR 24 (CH 23 last month), so hopefully one report I read, which said she had to retire due to cramp, was correct and she'll be fit enough to play. If it was any other reason, it seems very doubtful that she would have any chance of playing.

Meanwhile, Katie has drawn (Q) Bernarda Pera USA WR 80 (CH 27 in 2023), who has exactly the same career high as she does.

H2H 1-1, both in WTA qualifying (and both in January) - Katie won 7-6(5) 3-6 6-1 in St Petersburg in 2019 but lost 4&3 in Adelaide in 2020.

Originally they had Katie playing Kalinina, she is still in the draw in the top RH corner.

Yes, that's what the downlload PDF draw is still showing, but the website shows Pera. Not sure what you are looking at Peter as there is no top right on the WTA drawsheet wink

There was a message from Kalinina saying she wasn't playing.

If you open the website draw, the PDF is in the top right hand corner. The website shows Pera and the PDF shows Kalinina.

Why on earth are people disregarding the Instagram story from Kalinina a whole two days ago saying she was withdrawing from Toronto? Why is that not considered solid evidence?

Probably because nobody saw it - she isn't one that I follow and I doubt whether any of the other regular posters follow her either.
