Other events, 2024 - week 31

There's a Super Cat. U14 event in Germany, on clay, this week

Only two of our players involved - but high profile ones

Scott Watson is top seed in the boys

Dani Britton is 5th seed in the girls, in a strong field

Is Megan Knight playing elsewhere instead?

It is a strange one.  Next week sees the World Junior under 14 finals.  I wouldn't have been surprised to see all 6 Brits selected withdraw in favour of a training camp this week.  However Scott and Daniella have opted to stay on the list and play here, while Eric, Niall and Megan withdrew earlier in the month (Liv didn't enter).  I would be very surprised if Megan turns up in any other tournament this week.

Scott and Daniella won their round 1 matches today

That seems sensible from her in that case and hopefully not overdoing it by playing a pre tournament.

Dani Britton won her R2 match 6-0 6-2

However, this is a draw with a strong top-16 - and then (apart from a couple of others, primarily top-2011-ers) drops off pretty quickly

So it's only now, in the L16, that things get interesting.....

Daniella plays Darina Matvejeva, the Latvian 'star-let' who also is a year younger (2011) than Dani (2010)

She's had lots of wins this year, but often in lower ranked events (although she beat the winner of Les Petits As in the Super Cat event in Stockholm this year)

Rumour is (and I stress its a rumour) that Daniella is chasing ranking points to try to get in top 8 for the race to Monte Carlo. Although her overall ranking is higher than Megans she played a couple of easier 16U events to get ranking points, however this doesnt count for the 14U Monte Carlo race. Megan withdrew to focus on next week

Scott also won today, although with a fair bit more trouble - 6-7(5) 6-1 6-4

Thanks Rose - the rumour makes sense for Daniella, as she is outside the top 8 in the race ranking. Scott must have another reason, as he is safely inside the top 8

Niall and Eric both had wildcards into this weeks J30 at Bradfield. Main draw started today. Eric won first round, Niall lost. They are playing doubles together (yet to start) Eric has said he plans to play a lot of ITFs now and is joining the national academy in September

Thanks Roae - Eric certainly deserves a place at the academy after an impressive year imo.
