Another solid week for Ella. Edging closer to the top 500.

Im a little confused as to why Sonay is playing here. Is it just match practice on hard prior to US open qualifying?

I would have hoped post Wimbledon she would have gone over to the states for some bigger challenger events.

I don't know but I think (a) Sonay doesn't seem to like travelling much - I'm sure I've heard her say so somewhere and, if you look at her matchcard, she travels less than most, and (b) she was quite injured earlier this year and was, seemingly, still getting some treatment during the grass season - I wonder if she wants to stay near her physio/rehab team as long as possible before she HAS to travel...

That would make sense.

Maybe she didnt want to make any major changes post Wimbledon with the massive ranking rise?

Keep the momentum and winning and still love up the rankings.

Don't knock winning-it's a very good habit to have!

Also prior to this week Sonay only had 13 counting events, so it probably makes sense to play tournaments where she can be reasonably sure of winning a few matches to continue to improve her ranking, rather than risk playing a higher level and potentially losing in the first round.  Hopefully she will move up later in the year, especially if she does well in the US Open quails.
