Naiktha, Katie S and Ella missing from the top of the qualifying acceptance list. Naiktha may have just made the main draw but the other two most likely have wild cards. The other wildcard(s) must have gone to Marni or Fran or one (or two) of the promising juniors as most of the other higher ranked players are accounted for elsewhere.

I think Mimi will have a wildcard into the MD

She entered here and then got withdrawn automatically because she was also enterered in Tunisia

Which I think was an admin error - and she withdrew from Tunisia, as a late withdrawal, pretty much straight away afterwards

So, we'll see, but I'm expecting to see her re-appear here

This is Brooke Black's sixth wildcard on the trot

She's got wildcards, for qualis or main draw, into:

Roehampton W35 - July
Notts W50 - July
Surbiton W100 - June
Notts W35 - April
Roehampton W50 - Feb
Edgbaston W50 - Feb

She's only played six adult events this year - all in the UK and all on wildcards

This seems spectacularly unfair on those who have not been selected for wildcards!

I think players are entitled to 3MD and 3qualyfing wildcards in a calendar year unless Im mistaken?

Well, this is more Lambda's domain (and others)

But Brooke has had 5 quali wildcards (and 1 MD wildcard)

To be fair she was quite high up on the alts list. I'm pretty sure all the Brits above her are already in the draw. There are also 5 WC's, isn't that more than usual.

She's on the doubles acceptance list, so almost certainly going to have a MDWC

Five qualifying and four main draw wild cards are the maximums under ITF rules. So we are used to seeing the four main draw ones.

For our unranked women taking into account counters to have dropped when these points go on

2 counters - WTA ranking if they qualify
Sophie Drakeford-Lewis 6 points
Brooke Black 5pts

1 counter
Grace Piper 6 pts
Eleanor Dean 3 pts
Victoria Allen, Hannah Rylatt, Gabia Paskauskas, Summer Yardley, Given Roach and Alisha Reayer have 1 point.

Francesca Davis, Annabelle Lammas and Ava Williamson have 0 counters

Normal players are allowed up to 6 wildcards a year, with a max of 3 in the MD
So Brooke is allowed, legally, her 6 (even if her peers might have questions) but she's now reached her max

HOWEVER, this only applies to players who are not AER, and as it also says; "Players aged under 18 are subject to the WTA AER and are restricted in the number and category of Wild Cards they may receive."

"Players who are not subject to the AER may receive during a calendar year a maximum number of
Wild Cards as follows:

W15 Tournaments
a) Six (6) Wild Cards into Singles at W15 Tournaments on the Womens ITF World Tennis Tour,
with a maximum of three (3) of these allowed in the Main Draw. In addition to these Wild
Cards, a player who wins one (1) or more matches at a tournament where they are allocated
a Main Draw Wild Card will receive an additional Main Draw Wild Card for use in the same
calendar year (a Merited Increase). A player is able to receive up to 3 Merited Increases for
Main Draw Wild Cards each year at W15 level (i.e. 6 Main Draw Wild Cards in total, in
addition to 3 Qualifying Wild Cards). For the purposes of determining the Merited Increases,
wins by retirement or default (after the match has started) count as wins, but byes and
walkovers do not...."

But I don't know what the impact of age eligiblity rules are on the wildcards - will have to look it up

Brooke is allowed 4 WCs as a 16 year old. She has used 2 - those in the 2 Nottingham events. The others don't count towards either her ITF annual allowance or her AER allowance as she didn't get any WTA ranking points with them. As she won a match as a main draw WC she gets an additional MDWC added to her annual ITF allowance but this must be used within her age year AER allowance of 4 WCs.

I wonder though if any of her ranking points giving her that place on Alts list are in fact due to previous wildcards? If I'm not mistaken sometimes MD WC in some level events get a point or more even if they lose?

Could be a bit more imaginative in wc choice I think. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes, but could well be the thought that if both your parents were pro players then you may well have more chance than others.

I was just reading up on the rules and agree with Lambda. Brooke's birthday is in November, so she will get a new allowance then.
