That's a brilliant win against a player ranked about 150 places higher at 592 especially considering that he will only have arrived in Italy yesterday and will have had very little time to adjust to the courts
The real tough match is tomorrow, against the world 299 and no.1 seed, Sanchez de Luna. Morgan's first round match will have been a long one, I bet over two and a half hours given that there were two tie breaks. I think Morgan may be as mentally fatigued as he is physically - he is just not used to playing so many matches, especially big ones, in such a short space of time. I've an idea that difference in ranking will be too much for Morgan to handle, but I really hope that I am proved wrong!
Just to give the scoreline, Morgan lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
He was really unlucky to be drawn against Sanchez de Luna so early on. I would have fancied Morgan's chances of winning against any other player in the field. He did extremely well to win a set 6-2 against a player ranked so much higher - shows what confidence does to your game !
Sanchez de Luna reached the semis of a challenger earlier this month so he's an on-form player aswell, I was expecting the scoreline to be more like 6-2, 6-3 !!! Congratulations to Morgan on a fantastic couple of weeks, he'll be close to the top 600 now when these points are added on to his ranking.
The doubles win was also fantastic, they beat Parada and Sirianni 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 !
Given that the 2nd and 4th seeds are now out, they've got to be favourites to win the title. Parada is a clay-court specialist and Sirianni beat Max Mirnyi at the Aussie Open a few years ago, so it was very much a victory against the odds.
