All done and dusted and Jack Draper is our mens grass court fantasy champ.
Thats all done and dusted - hope someone out there liked it!
I learnt a few things this past week or three with the mens and womens.
Firstly, youd initially think maybe a fantasy event lets people cut loose and lots of surprise votes would be generated. Reality or fantasy is actually less surprising than reality - whereas reality has room for upsets because , well, players are all human. Turns out fantasy is not full of upsets because, well voters are all human - and we tend to go with the obvious choice because, when voting, we turn our logical heads above the illogical.
And thats cool.
Second thing though is that fantasy events dont really work on a board like this - unlike other votes such as PoM or the slam wins votes, of the favourite player votes, fantasy votes havent really ever worked. So , I reckon Ive learn my lesson and Ill stick to what has worked and go with those for the future. This event will be retired and consigned to the list of experiments that didnt quite do the trick!
But thanks to those who joined in and gave it a go, we had a consistent 16 or 17 votes through all the rounds of mens and womens.
Thanks still Jon for so often thinking up ideas to help keep the board healthily alive. Not everything will work but nothing ventured ...
Fantasy events are maybe best for the truly fantasy such as involving different generations, players that would not have overlapped at all or very little. Done with current players it does as you suggest tend to come down to voters just logically going for the more likely winner, and that is often fairly clear.

Roll on the USA Open polls.
Yeah, as you say nothing ventured! Maybe a cross generational one might work - one for the future in a quiet period !
Agree with Indy that this was a fun event, but we all took it far too seriously! However, I didn't expect Jake to make the final (which was probably to do with how the seedings fell out), so was pleased with that.
I like the idea of doing one for different generations. Maybe players who were WR1 in different decades, with the decades far enough apart they're unlikely to have directly played each other. So e.g. 1970s vs 2000s, 1980s vs 2010s, 1990s vs 2020s? And maybe do the seedings/rankings based on how many weeks they were WR1, taking the top 8 in each decade. (You'd have to adjust the 2020s for only having 4 years of rankings!)

A global one ? could be fun !
Yup, so you'd get matches like McEnroe vs Alcaraz or Borg vs Federer or Connors vs Djokovic (or whatever. Not sure I have my decades right there!) I guess a GOATs tournament?
Cool - maybe one for December when its quiet time. Based on number ones since open tennis maybe!? Have a feeling we may have done something like that a few years back, maybe in Covid, but sounds like one to do! Unless someone else fancies running it of course!
