Ive actually emailed Jeff Sackmann at tennis Abstract to see if Jeff might think of doing any insights into Billy's rise - it may be he doesnt have any as Billy's stats until 12 months ago are largely at ITF level and I am not sure he tracks those. But he often provides some interesting insights into what stats are saying about the way someone is playing, their tactics that the stats imply, and how they have changed over time. What is leading to the change, not what change has happened.

But I dont think he will have anything or run anything for us, so probably a forelorn hope

Jeff mailed me back to say he was going to get back to his stats when he has time and that it would be interesting to see how Billy performs on hardcourts - but I dont think he has any desire or intent to do any analysis on Billy's improvement etc

Billy was thrashed 2 and 2 cry

Perhaps a stark reminder of just how inexperienced he still is at this level, especially on this surface. Hopefully he'll learn from it.

Pity but I think Billy is entitled to an off day

And although Karatsev has had an interrupted season and struggled for wins he has been a top 20 player at his best.

Billy is up to live ranked 107 and will be GB #3 when Dan's Washington title points come off next week.

Isn't Aslan a super streaky player that when he catches fire goes on some deep runs? Like the Australian Open and Madrid Open.

Mayot, whom Billy beat in the FQR, was awarded a LL spot and went on to beat Coric in the 1R in straights which makes Billy's win seem all the more impressive.

I saw Mayot at the Ilkley final before Wimbledon - seemed very streaky ; sort of player who could play lights out one day and a drain the next. At Ilkley, we got both in the same match.

so wouldnt surprise me that he lost in qualies to Billy and goes onto do well in the main draw!

If Julian & Robert win the title they will be able to enter Cincinnati through being top 13 in the race.
