Have noted that Billy only has 48 points to come off between now and mid-October, some of which (22 points) will be covered by promoting current 'non-countables'.

That doesn't include the 38 points he has already picked up this week. One good week could see him crack that top 100.

Hes got a good chance. Hes in Atlanta and Washington lists and both surfaces will suit him - Atlanta is very fast.

Billy on court 1 , second match on circa 5.20pm.

There are 10 Americans left in the last 16 of the draw, 3 French, 2 Aussies and a Brit. Unless your country hosts a grand slam event, you arent invited !

Good to see Billy continue the good form and another good shot at the QF.

Well done Billy. Bit of a shock seeing the courts after Wimbledon, but good to see grass again anyway.

the courts at Newport have always been poor! Do they still leave the grass long at the back of the courts near the tarpaulin? Used to be uncut past a few feet outside the court area!

Oh, Im not sure, just the general appearance compared with all our grass court tournaments here made me realise how good ours are.

I saw some from a Davis Cup tie in Pakistan a year or two back, maybe Lahore, not sure. You could literally see the bumps and divots! Game of roulette!

Going back a couple of decades Newport had an absolutely abysmal courts. You had to serve and volley as if u let the ball bounce you had no chance

Good one Billy. The good form continues and inching nearer to the top 100.

Needs two more wins this week to stand a chance.  One more win will put him very close to being a DA into the US Open.

MacKenzie McDonald will be tough though.

McDonald will be tough however was just looking up his form. He managed 3 wins across 5 tournaments on the grass before this week. Before the grass he had not won a match this season but looks like he was injured between Aus Open and Rome in May.

And McDonald is proving a tougher nut as he wins the opening set 6-3

Newport is going to continue next year, kind of. Looks like it is going to be in the 2nd week of Wimbledon and a 125 event with men and womens draw.

This seems like a more appropriate level (a 125) given the players that go there to play.

Shame for Billy. Didn't see any of the match but it looks from the game scores like it was a struggle for him on all his service games.

Unlucky Billy but still not all that used to this level yet.

And not British I know, but nice to see Reilly Opelka back, great win over Mannarino.
