Week 29 - ITF W50 - Nottingham, Hard

Watching Mimi and so far so good, 4-1 up in first set. Could have this wrong, but watching her matches this week, feel she has been working on her shot repertoire and that serve looks more fluid, although still seems to be a little way to go. Slice backhand etc, any experts out there who can add to this or is it my imagination?? May explain why her form has been a bit up and down recently

Not much on the technicals, Var (and don't you just love it when you post and then immediately it goes a bit souht? )

But, for me, her serve is working well - as is the crosscourt forehand - that's a weighty shot and doing damage

What I find a lot of youngsters do is that they have a tendency to 'watch' their really good shots - assuming they're winners

They're not ready for the shot coming back (because, presumably, most of the time in juniors it doesn't)

If you were being critical, Mimi could do (IMO) with being a bit more dynamic in between the shots

Heather lost the first three games against the youngster - and then won the next six

CD thats spot on. She does watch the shot not expecting it to come back! Oh well got the tie break and 3-0 up in the second so fingers crossed.

Well, Mimi had to keep working - Ankita most certainly didn't roll over and die after that first set

But Mimi played a cracking second set

And wins 7-6 6-0

Another very well-ranked scalp to add to her collection

Must watch Hev play Mimi. Will be fascinating match up to see how Mimi is progressing, although I would be surprised if she got the better of Hev.

With Hesther due to drop 60 points on 29/07, the relevant date for determining the US Open qualifying list, she may be currently quite tight for making it in.

With 20 points so far here for making the SF, that would at the moment drop her down a net 40 points to 326 ranking points, currently the 220s in the rankings.

The US Open main draw entry list is out today. Last direct entry is WR96 Sara Errani. Lily is 40 out.

As Indi says, Heather needs to win this week to keep her chances of making qualifying open. I'm not sure if she is down to play anywhere next week - not showing on the ITF lists.

Good day for Mimi, but a bad day for Beth as Katie and Mimi win the doubles SF

Someone on Twitter wants to go and watch the semis tomorrow but has never been to a live tennis event before and was asking me how he gets in. I advised just going to reception at the tennis centre and saying he's there to watch the ITF event. Does that cover it or do any of you who have been to ITFs in Nottingham have any better advice to give him?
