They've just announced that the mixed doubles final will be on Sunday.

ha. That feels like it could become a more permanent change back to what it was only a couple of years ago. Finishing the tournament with mixed always worked well for me
Think that would be good. But for now it feels to me like no more than a 2024 reactive move. Take out Thursday and all things considered back to Sunday this year definitely made sense.
I am trying to recall the reasoning behind the move to a Thursday mixed final - my instinct was that they felt the profile of the mixed would be increased if they moved it away from the mens singles final and had it before the mens singles semifinals to supplement the womens singles semis, which can often by quite short relative to mens semis - thus bolstering the Thursday schedule with the third "big" match?
The Met OFfice forecast for today suggests they might get an hour or two's play on the outside courts before more persistant rain arrives late afternoon. Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

The way the tournament is going they won't even be ready for mixed doubles final on Sunday. Why oh why doesn't Wimbledon just admit it got got things wrong and put a couple of doubles matches on the show courts at 11am? Now they have gone to match tie breaks in the mixed there's more than enough time to play a match on each show court and still keep to their preferred timetable for singles.

I agree - and then also probably have time for one in the evening after the singles are over today and tomorrow.

I think other Slams had moved to earlier in the week in prime time to prevent it being a event tagged on at the end. And yet at Wimbledon it has never felt tagged on.
As has been said earlier, the Saturday schedule of women's singles, men's doubles (5 sets) and women's doubles always felt a little more unrealistic. Although am not sure what they did with the mixed doubles the year that Nadal had the epic match with Federer.

I think they moved it to court one that year, which has happened with other finals in wet years!
The most memorable year for mixed doubles was 1982 when they started the final day with a 2nd round match to play (in a 64 draw) and finished the event.

Was that when Martina played three times in one day , full matches if I recall as well!?

No, not that year. Curren and Smith defeated Lloyd and Turnbull in the final on Court 3 no less. Can't find an article with further details, but I think one team would have had to win 5 matches in one day to win the title. They didn't!

Im not sure if theyve done it other years but McEnroe and Stich won the mens doubles on a Monday, court 1 I think it was (old court one). I was flying to the States and the BA skipper came over the tannoy and announced the result as it was big news that year, Mcenroe was on a comeback if I recall, or at least was being followed by the press. It was 92 and they won 19-17 in the fifth. They let people into court one free of charge and it was packed out for the Monday.
Didnt a singles final , maybe Goran and Rafter in 2001, play on a Monday also?
