RE: Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - MIXED DOUBLES

Murray took no one's place in the draw. Goffin took it as a lucky loser

Emma is not being any more single minded with this than Andy deciding not to pull out of singles until the last minute and stopping someone from getting into the draw, and not getting the nice cheque that comes with it?

You can argue Andy earned that right, but Emma earned her right to prioritise her singles run. Just hope this doesnt disrupt her mindset for her singles match.

Obviously preferable if she played but the girl is made of glass and her priority should not be an exhibition with Andy Murray!

(Sorry for poor grammar, on my phone and begrudgingly watching the awful England game)

 I agree

Andy should have quit on Centre Court the other day

If not (and really????) Andy should have asked Hev (or anyone), not Emma - this was not unexpected

Emma should not have said yes - her team told her not to

Emma of course should pull out if her wrist is slightly sore

Honestly, the two deserve each other

There has got to be a Jay Clarke - Coco Gauff quip in here somewhere.

Horrible abuse of anyone on social media should always be abhorred, by everyone, at all times: and social media companies should stamp it out. Unfortunately it pays their bills, so they actively encourage it (whilst tut-tutting on the sidelines) - particularly when it is on an account with lots of followers. It is obscene, and I am disappointed that people like Ms Murray encourage it by irresponsible participation. She must have known what would follow her spiteful tweet, and that is unforgivable.

... I suppose that this means that they won't be a pair for the Olympics, then?

Well Emma's not playing the Olympics. And she and Murray wouldn't have qualified anyway.

Goodness. What a storm in a tea cup. Don't blame Emma for not wanting to play late in the evening before one of the biggest matches of her career. Blame Wimbledon if anyone for looking to extend Andy's retirement tour. Yes Emma probably shouldn't have said yes, but she probably didn't expect to still be in singles either. She wins tomorrow and all forgotten.

It probably means Emma neednt think about Andy as a future coach, either! Those mentoring sessions will be interesting going forwards!

Stu Fraser's interpretation of the "affair" - 728 readers' comments so far.  I haven't read them all, but the ones I have seen, i.e. the most recent, contain a mixture of views ranging from support for Emma to criticism, not to mention a few broadsides aimed at Judy because of her tweet.

I like Judy, but the storm has been solely caused by her astonishing tweet in my opinion, it reeks of hypocrisy. Its a selfish sport and you have to look after yourself.

Such a shame for that to happen the way it did. However, there are comments that Emma didnt tell Andy herself and it was through the news. If thats the case, thats poor.

Lots of singles players drop out from doubles if they go deeper than expected. Emma seems no different, and I don't really understand why she's getting so much negative sentiment. If Andy had done that to someone else, it feels like most people would be saying it was a good idea and sticking up for him. I'm a massive Andy fan, as well as an Emma one, so just trying to be objective here.

The whole thing is ridiculous - and I used to like Judy but now she's involved with the WTA finals on Saudi as well as this? Nah.

I personally don't think anyone did wrong - apart from Judy.

My first reaction was to think how could Emma let Andy down like that; and then that Judys response was over the top and irresponsible. Judy caused a pile on, as they say, and shouldnt have done. Im sure, as others would say, Andy would have done the same if hed been left in the singles and, being frank, selecting Emma as a partner was always likely to end this way.

But if Emma didnt tell Andy directly, by phone or WhatsApp or whatever and he found it indirectly, that is a poor show and not at all on.

Disappointing from both sides but it doesnt make Emma or Andy a bad person and Im sure Andy is big enough to get over it quite quickly, as Judy should now be.

I hope behind the scenes there is some attempt at communication and reconciliation going on.

Also i hadnt thought about the fact the match would have been held in the evening due to the rain delays and England match, not ideal at all.

Feels like all the anger would have been resolved with some prior communication going on and, being frank, maybe Andy should have paired initially with Heather or Katie or someone instead!

Mine was said with a wry smile too.

Interesting that Rajeev Ram got into mixed doubles thanks to the withdrawal. As an aside, why on earth do they give 8 wild cards into a draw of 32. Appreciate Wimbledon didn't give all eight, but don't think so many home pairs need to be competing. Makes it feel more like an exo.

Katie didn't want to play mixed, Heather and Joe are an established pair. Andy should have stuck to singles and doubles. That doubles match was a perfect way to bow out.
