Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's DOUBLES

I agree with that, I was astonished with how well they played, and they looked so nerveless too, as if they were the ones who had played multiple slam SFs before. It was a very high quality match and if they can play like that again, they'll give themselves every chance in the final.

Henry is only the 7th British player to make the Wimbledon men's doubles final since World War II:

1947 Tony Mottram

1960 Mike Davies & Bobby Wilson

2012 Jonny Marray (*)

2015 Jamie Murray

2023 Neal Skupski (*)

2024 Henry Patten

(*) went on to win the title

It's also the first time for 87 years that back-to-back Wimbledon men's doubles finals have had British interest - Pat Hughes & Raymond Tuckey were the runners-up to Americans Budge & Mako in 1937 after winning the last all-GB final against Charles Hare & Frank Wilde in 1936.

Some doubles movements post Wimbledon:

Joe and Neal have pulled out of Bastad, not sure I can see that they have a pre Olympics event left to warm up with?

Gstaad event - Jamie is playing with Pavlasek there

Hamburg - Rajeev is with Krajicek, prepping for Olympics

Atlanta - Julian (w Robert) and Henry (w Harri) are both entered (Henry and Harri out of Newport, obviously)

Kitzbuehl - Rojer is playing w/Haase, presumably they are the Dutch Olympic pairing? Lloyd is with Middelkoop

Thanks Jon, interesting lists. And yes, Rojer and Haase are playing Olympics together. Interestingly the top 6 entries in Hamburg are Olympic pairings.

Also interesting is the fact that the four Wimbledon doubles finalists won't be playing in Paris. Purcell and Thompson are both missing the Games, Heliovaara had no partner as Ruusuvuori is not playing, and Patten is a victim of the nation player quota limit.

Jamie is also in Kitzbuehl with Pavlasek. no sign of Michael Venus with anyone from that i can see. cant see Behar anywhere either so hard to tell if Jamie and Pavlesek maybe a new pairing or just through the Olympics? Neither Venus or Behar are in the Olympics though, so maybe it is a new pairing ?

Could be as simple as taking a break after Wimbledon and not wanting to go back onto clay for two weeks.

Biggest day of Henrys career today (and Harris!). Hope they enjoy it and hope they can win. Whatever happens, it will have been a great event for them.

Max Purcell has of course won Wimbledon, in 22 with Matt Ebden. And twice an AO finalist, with Ebden in 22 and Luke Saville in 20.

I think Purcell and Thompson start slight favourites, but hopefully Henry and Harri play out of their skins.

Thanks for this insight Steven. Hopefully they will repeat the Anglo Nordic triumph of Jonny Marray and Freddie Nielsen in 2012! that was also an Olympic year - of course - so maybe the Viking runes will fall in our favour!

And another Finn, Henri Kontinen, won the Wimbledon mixed doubles in another Olympic year, 2016, so another sign.

JonH shouldn't that be Viking Rune's (capital R)? ;)

And Kontinen won it with a Brit, Heather!

2020 of course was Covid year, so no Olympics or Wimbledon!

Everything crossed for Harri and Henry!

Not bitter or anything, but the emptiness of Centre Court at the start of this match tells you everything about the kind of people who get Wimbledon finals tickets and their level of actual tennis interest..... Sure the Pimms was lovely tho!

Give them a wee chance. Let's see how much and how quickly it fills up again.

Oh I know, just being silly, sure it'll fill up eventually... The patriot in me just finds it hard to fathom biggrin

Henry looks very secure, playing well so far.

All serve though , no sniffs at any breaks on anyones serve.

Ridiculous - the Aussies have lost 1 point in serve all set, in 6 service games !
