RE: Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's singles

another one bites the dust no

Suggestion on another chat board that college tennis is great at developing players who can grind it out 700>200 level. Now seems harder to get past the 200 mark hmm still have fingers X for the rest of the Brit men

and theres always the dubs wink

I know I shouldn't be too harsh but this has been a lot of disappointing chokes. Jubb was 2 sets and a break up on a guy who looked like he had no idea how to play on grass. Arthur was well in control and then let his opponent in. Even Broom, was up 5-2 in that 2nd set and missed some routine shots. After such an epic few weeks on the grass - these results are pretty bleak.

I'm not disappointed with Harris, his opponent looked the better throughout from what I saw - he did well to get a set.

Hmm, I like Jubb and the points accrued from last week are more important than a second round exit here but that was not great. He also had points to go up a double break in third set so really should have got it wrapped up before even needing a tiebreak- but such is life. Disappointing!

How many male WCs are left? Jacob and Henry? Henry doesnt really have a chance so good luck Jacob, dont embarrass us and have every WC out please! (To no seeds!!)

Gutted for Paul who fought till the very end.
Hope he takes something away still from this match as he is back up to his best ranking and can now hopefully push on further.
Same for Billy being so close to the top 100. Plenty of positives for them.

I think sometimes its the occasion and I do wonder if the LTA really prepare our players for the bigger tournaments and the grind like they do elsewhere. It does seem to happen so much that with such a close eye on Wimbledon you see British players in great positions and then freezing up at the wrong moment. I'd say if we got more sport psychologists and fitness coaches in it would help massively with these players.

Even if he loses this match he should be proud of himself for getting a set

Well done Jacob F. I did fear the worst when this went to a tie break, Brit wins the first two sets comfortably then loses a tie break would have become unnervingly familiar had Jacob not took his moment here. And what a tie break it was, on and on it went 14-12!

Fantastic win by Jake! Well done I saw the last few games of the match and he looked pretty composed and confident. Now on to an exciting opportunity.

Shame about the other boys so far, especially Paul, but I hope that when they've had time to reflect, they'll be able to take something useful away from it (beyond the first round prize money).

Fantastic Fearnley. What a few weeks for him and what a prospect for us to get excited about.
