Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's singles

Didn't someone say that Cam had been working on making his game more attacking? If so, seems to have come good today and if that creates a healthy rivalry for the Brit no. 1 slot the all to the good in my opinion.

I wonder how much they really care about GB #1?

Certainly it must come behind world ranking aims and big tournament ( most particularly Slams success ).

Theyd rather be ranked number 10 and be GB number 2 than number 30 and GB number one for sure.

I am sure they care about beating each other in a rivalry sort of way, but I doubt it is their big ambition, big tournies and world rankings are the currency!

Like in doubles, I doubt Neal thought much about Joe going back to number one Brit; much more concerned about his ranking drop to 30 ish post Wimbledon unless he does well this fortnight; he will care about beating Joe H2H but that is probably not much more than any other top player he comes across

 Certainly not!

I also would have preferred both Jack and Katie to win, but Cam and Harriet attended to their business and got their wins.

Surely if we are to be pissedd with anyone ( and I wouldn't be ) it should be with Jack and Katie for not bringing their best games to the table today and winning.

Listened to 'More or less' on Radio 4 yesterday and heard that Federer only won approx 54% of points in his career and Serena Williams approx 55%, but that translates into 60% of games and about 74% of sets and an even higher % of matches.

Agreed and agreed! It shows how tennis is such a fickle sport and so much based on mentality on the day and match ups. Which is what makes it great. i remember some stats site such as Tennis Abstract showing how the top players only win circa 52-55 percent of all points they play and how the game therefore turns on minor things - and the top players do these the best.

taking care of business is what it is all about and Cam and Harriet did that - although Im disappointed it was that way around!

Sorry  - my note about 'more or less' was meant to be a separate post but somehow appeared as part of Indiana's.

Only around half the seeds left in round three.

6 French left and 5 USA.

Seed pattern is q1 - 4; q2 - 5 ; q3 - 4 ; q4 - 3.

Although the big 5 names are left and 12 of top 16 seeds also left.

Disappointing Jack and Katie lost as felt they couldve both made deep runs, Harriet and cam will probably lose in the next round

More poor scheduling by Wimbledon .

Why start Centre Court at 1.30 pm ?

Now if Alcaraz and Tiafoe go 5 sets theyre likely to run out of time to finish the scheduled matches.

Isn't this what Andy was complaining about before the tournament began? Centre Court should start playing at an earlier time

On the other hand two matches have been completed on No1 court (which started at 1pm) and Sony v Coco is next up - the court could be finished by 7pm. They need to plan a bit better for the length of matches. At least they can move one onto court 1 later this evening.

It's very difficult to 'plan' for the length of matches. But yes, they should certainly be starting earlier.

The thing the schedulers did do well, though, was to split all the singles matches over more courts than normal, so as to try and get more matches played in the 2-3 hour good weather slot
And that's worked well

Alcaraz also almost came unstuck today but I believe that is because he wants to be at his peak next week and all his psychological and physical preparation will be tweaked towards that.

Nobody can play at their peak all the time. It's not physically possible.
