L64: (2) Novak Djokovic (SRB) WR 2 defeated (WC) Jacob Fearnley WR 277 by 6-3 6-4 5-7 7-5 in three hours
By no means did Jake disgrace himself on the greatest stage in tennis.
LOL - that's one way of putting it. Well done Jake, great effort and very promising for the future. Understandably a fair bit off the best Novak but still Novak.
That was really fun to watch (which is not something I usually think about Djokovic matches; too many slug fests) and Jake didn't look at all overawed by the opposition or the place/occasion. When you think how many tour level matches he's played, it was impressive.
In one way, I'm glad he didn't win. Can you imagine the media hype that would have resulted? Now he can go off and have a good solid year on the tour building on his challenger title and we can look forward to him coming back next year (as a direct acceptance, we hope!) and going deeper.

Its funny isnt it - in life, its oft commented that women develop and have deeper and stronger friendships that endure and men often struggle as they dont develop the same, a lot more high level links which dont have as much depth to them and often leave a lot of men without real, true friends outside their wife and family.
And yet in this sporting context it feels like it reverses almost; the men out on tour seem more able to enjoy the lifestyle more and have better social connections with other players, whereas as the women seem to keep themselves more to themselves and not build the friendships - its like the competition gets on the way? In a way that is almost the reversal of what we see in most peoples everyday non sporting lives?
I used to organise many junior tournaments. The girls of all ages would always arrive and leave with their parents in the family car and not talk with any of the other female players. The boys from the age of about fifteen would often travel by themselves on public transport and readily chat with other male players.
I find it strange how Jack is now spoken about as the heir apparent to Murray. Which I'm sure he is.
However, the media forgets that Cam has been our #1 for quite some time and made the worlds top 10.
What's to say if he gets his mojo back that he won't go back above Draper in the rankings this year.
Amazing how quickly things can sometimes change. It's all great stuff for British Tennis.
