Weeks 27-28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass)

Glad Harriet held there. Would have been particularly horrible to have lost the last four games. Feels like Katie has found an extra gear at *40-0 but Harriet drags herself to break point.

Gosh that was a good rally, Katie clings on after 21 shots. Could Harriet have done a little more with a couple of those balls though maybe? There was one shortish ball she didn't really get up to.

6-5*

Just me or is Katie staying very high up on her forehand today? Loads flying long anyway... Into an MTB....

God this is like a Birmingham match I watched years ago between South and O'Brien. Mel won it after 3 torturous hours 7-6(5) in the third after Katie, of course, double faulted at 5-all.

I think Harriet wants this too desperately.

Katie takes a big early lead, but is pegged back to *6-5

Well done Harriet. I didn't see that coming I must admit (and the crowd goes wild, what a match).

Ah. Happy for Harriet I guess, but definitely wanted Katie to win. Katie hugging at the end almost felt pointed after their last few matches where Harriet lost haha

when I'm basically neutral, I nearly always want the more aggressive player to win
Which was Katie
But Harriet showed amazing desire, and defence, and it meant a huge deal to her
Really pleased for her

Oof, well done Harriet; the more consistent player won. I do think Katie had a bit of a similar situation to Martic against Fran the other day - staying focused when your opponent is sobbing at the other end is tough.

Do you know what. I hope that kills some of the demons Harriet has carried for so long.

I'm so sorry for Katie, but I am so excited for the US swing and what she can do as a seed at US Open.

Just Katie is a fair bit more mature. Good for Harriet to finally prevail as she did though she was rather handed that MTB in the end.

Im sorry that was an absolute **** show. Katie not handling the pressure at all, 4 match points 2 on the forehand sky rocketed off the court. So disappointing, really thought this was her chance to have a good run at a slam.

Really pleased for Harriet though, clearly means a lot to her.

Nip and tuck in that TB.
Well done Harriet.
I think I was rooting for Katie as I felt she could potentially go further, but who knows?
Not Katie's best tennis today.

This was always going to be a rollercoaster. The one positive thing - I think boulter will bounce back absolutely fine; I think this might help Harriet slay a demon. In a couple weeks, we will forget, and it might mean more in the long term.

That win takes Harriet up to a new career high of 77 on live rankings.
So with Katie top 30 and Emma only a whisker away from being back in the top 100 it's all looking good for our women.
