So impressed, but it all feels a bit Emma fever pitch again. I'd rather her win another round or two, maybe snatch a hardcourt title this year, and build her ranking, take some more top 10 scalps etc before we start thinking of her as a slam contender again. But the ballstriking, the energy, the fact that she looked like she was actually enjoying her tennis again was so positive, and lets just hope her body gives her a chance to fulfil her potential.

I think Sonay should be so proud of herself. An equally amazing performance for entirely different reasons. The extra aggression (I'm not saying she's Sabalenka) is paying dividends, she looks so, so solid, her game doesn't look like it will break down easily.

I want her to win, shut all the naysayers up then disappear off to Oxford for a few years to live her life.

Kasatkina won the first set 6-0 against Lily

This is painful. I know it's not Lilys style but the refusal to show or release any kind of emotion or energy is really not helpful in situations like this. Just withdrawing more and more within herself.

0-6 *0-4

0-6.0-6

Not for the first time, I thought Kasatkina was superb.

Kasatkina is deceptively good. Lily doesn't have enough in her armoury to hit round or through her, and unless she has a horror (like she did against Harriet in New York that time) was always going to be mammoth task.

Tennis is a funny sport - if that had happened in the first round we'd all be saying what a waste of a wildcard. But because she came out the hat one name later, got a soft draw and played well to take advantage of it, it feels like she's done as well as she could have.

well... at least it was the second round. Would be very happy if Dasha lifts the trophy in 9 days time

Yes, as someone who didn't really think Lily should be in the main draw in the first place, she's already done miles better than I thought, and proveed me wrong
So if you're going to lose, at least lose quickly

Not even hitting practice for Daria. Not my favourite player but she is in excellent form and must be a real prospect for progressing much further. Shame lily couldnt get a game on the board.

Tough for the crowd to know who to get behind, and then to have to do it all again with Draper and Norrie.

Lily's match was painful to watch. Kasatkina doesn't give you anything - neither consistent power, nor errors...a really bad match up in style for Miyazaki.

Good level in the first couple of games Harriet v Katie.

Absolutely shocking start to Dart v Boulter. 30 combined unforced errors in first 5 games.

Alex arrived end of first set and Katie's barely won a point since! :S
